Walking from VGF to MK

Having scoped the area, it is very strange that Disney built a lighted walkway all the way from the magic kingdom to just outside the GF where it hits a 15-20 ft water way. They then built a walking path from the GF to the exact same location. Both of these paths lead to no where as they sit. The only thing they have not completed is the bridge over the small water way to allow you to walk from the GF (and Poly) to the MK. Right now, they have a bunch of building materials just sitting there at this same spot.

I understand they use the small water way to store the light parade water floats. It is also pretty close to where the monorail passes over the same location.

However, with more rooms being added via VGF and the new Poly DVC, you wonder if Disney will ever complete the final bridge to hookup these existing walking paths. Obviously, at one point, they were planning to do so and stopped. It would be interesting to know why they never completed it. One CM thought the monorail passed too close and it became a safety issue. However, would they really build hundreds of yards of lighted walking paths then suddenly decide it was not safe for the final 20'?

The path from MK to the waterway has the named bricks, so they made money on those.

There have been other recent threads on this:

Thanks, I should have spotted the other threads! My bad. There are both building equipment and materials now at this location. So, we will see. They could just be storing the materials and equipment there at the moment.

I have always been told that it was because of the size of the boats (including the Riverboat on occasion) that must pass through that canal for routine maintenance. Hence, also, the high rise of the monorail tracks over that canal.

As has been mentioned above, the pathway was built to sell the bricks. It was never intended to connect that side of the SSL to the MK, at least not in its original design.

I was there last week and I asked the marina what that stuff was and they said that was the dock for the new Poly and it was simply being built at that location.

We heard that same explanation while there in November. I don't quite understand it considering the Poly as a decent dock right now though.

They are probably reconfiguring for the DVC construction. They are building those bungalows on the water.
