Is there a way to walk a loop from poly past MK entrence?

No walkway or safe path between the TTC and the Contemporary. You could walk to the TTC and back again to the Poly. Or you could walk to the GF, continue on to the MK and then continue to the Contemporary. From there, you'd have to reverse your route or take the monorail back.

There is no walking path loop around the lake/lagoon. The section/area between BLT/the Contemporary & the TTC has no path. You can walk in front of the MK to/from the Poly to BLT/Contemporary w/out having to go into the MK - but you will need to go through security. Poly to BLT/ the Contemporary is just over 3 miles.

Ya, the construction of the tower, which we assume will block access between Poly and VGF while under construction is probably going to steer us away from a Poly stay until the tower is done.

We have a Poly studio stay in late September. I'd really like to know if they are breaking ground before that so we can move if they are.

How long is the walk from Polynesian to VGF ?

It takes me about 5 to 6 minutes from the villas at VGF to the edge of the Poly property near the marina.

Probably another 5 minutes to the Poly villas. I find it a nice walk. Not looking forward to it being blocked when we stay at VGF during the new construction Of the tower and hope they still have a way to get between the two when it’s done.

I can’t imagine they would prevent walking access between the two when the construction is done. It would mean no walking to MK from Poly so the money they spent to construct the walkway from VGF to MK would have around half the number of people who could use it.

In 1974, my brothers and I went to the Contemporary Arcade (now Steakhouse 71) and stayed until it closed at 10pm. We were all pre-teens. We didn't realize that the monorail also shut down at 10pm. With no money, needing to get back to the Poly, and a regular resort map showing the streets, we walked down World Drive until it met the monorail (1/2 mile), then under the monorail tracks (which had lights) to the TTC (2 miles). We didn't know about alligators or other nasties, and had decided that walking under lights was better and shorter (2 miles) than walking by the dark road (3 miles). On the walk, we passed a maintenance crew (working on lights under the monorail) that said hello to us, and the monorail zipped over our heads at least once (it was LOUD). When we emerged at the TTC, we had to walk around a fence preventing people from doing what we were doing. At the TTC, we met a CM who pointed us towards 7 Seas Drive, which we walked down to get to the Poly.

Our parents found out about the trek on the plane ride home. No real repercussions, though. It happened in the "Disney Bubble", where children were safe and nothing bad ever happens, after all.

We’re there gators there back in 1974, didn’t they allow swimming in the lagoon and Bay Lake back then. They had all kinds of water sports.

I think it would be based on safety though but hopefully they could find a way to connect it!

My assumption is the beach remains, the walkway remains, and the building is set back from the walkway. Obviously during construction, sure it would be blocked, but after the walking path should be as it was before.

They allowed swimming in Bay Lake and the 7 Seas Lagoon at that time. In the 1960's, alligators were a cash crop, and hunted for their skins. In the early 1970's, they became protected due to being considered "endangered". So, in the early 1970's, there probably weren't that many around. And those few around WDW were probably caught and relocated well off the property, or shot as "nuisance gators" under the law. But, even if they were fairly rare and being actively "managed", it was still Florida, and there would still be gators in areas near water.

Disney's decision to halt swimming in Bay Lake and the 7 Seas Lagoon probably coincided with the "recovery" of the gator population, which in 1987 was considered enough to remove them from the endangered species list. Since then, helped by Florida laws, the gator population has exploded. If you look around, you can spot the WDW gator wranglers trolling the shore in their pontoon boats, and occasionally snaring a gator. I watched them grab one in the area of Morocco in Epcot a few years ago. It was a smallish one, only about 6' long, but it put up a heck of a fight.
