Walking from onsite hotels?

Hey. Does anyone know how far it is to walk from RPR to IOA? I am not sure if the shuttles or anything will be running for the really early admission for the HP event in November, so walking might be the mode of transport to get there for me.

Is it a long walk? An easy walk? Any tips would be helpful since I've never been there. It looks like a little path on the map, but I dunno if that distance is deceiving.

It's about a ten-minute walk, and very pleasant. The boats should be running too, but those can be slower than walking.

Side note: when I rode the boat from RPR a couple of months ago, another family's DS16 (roughly) ran back to the room to get something. He returned just as the boat pulled away. Little whippersnapper ran all the way to the CityWalk boat dock and actually beat us there. He was winded.

I've highlighted the path below, if leaving from the front lobby. You may also take the path from the pool and boat dock area, which is the white path along the canal that joins up with my red highlight in the bottom-center of the image.

Thank you. That isn't too bad, and it appears to be a kinda calming walk. :) I guess I'll need my coffee in the mornings though for sure.

From someone making their first visit and staying at RPR in December, THANKS!! Can someone tell us which tower is the closest to the road/park in that picture? It looks like that one would be the most convenient to the boats, the path, and the pool...? Thoughts on best room location from previous visitors? Thanks!!

That's tower 1.:thumbsup2

Tower one is very convenient to the walking path.

If you do get tower 1 (or 2), be sure to cut through the pool area instead around it. That will cut-off quite a bit of walking distance. And walking is usually quicker. Last year, when we stayed (3 couples), the men decided to walk to Citywalk, while the women waited for the boat. Not only did we beat them to CItywalk, but we had enough time to order and drink a margarita from "Margaritas To Go" stand next to Margaritaville.

One question and I'm not sure what the answer is, but do they ever lock the pool gates when the pool is closed? Last June, we couldn't open the gates to the pool area early one morning to cut through it. We instead walked down to tower 1 and walked through and down the hall and out the exit to the right. The reason I'm not sure if they do lock those gates is because a couple of days later we had a problem opening the gate in the middle of the afternoon! :headache: We were just turning the black thingy the wrong way that afternoon. So I'm not really sure if it was locked that first morning or if we were turning it the wrong way, but it is something to consider if you're talking about getting there at 6AM for the HP weekend early entry.

When we are in Tower One, we go down the stairs at the end of the hall of the furthest wing and cut across the grass to the path. You aren't near the boat then though, so you are pretty committed to walk.

not trying to hijack your thread ;) but I was just going to ask the same question about hrh!! this will be our first time staying there, arriving early on nov 3rd for early entry to wwohp and spending the night before moving to wl. On the map, hrh appears to be pretty close but just wondering if its deceiving. will be going to ioa then citywalk in the evening. where exactly do the boats dock?? tia!:)

It is about a 3 minute walk from HRH to the Studios...really close.

We'll be at RP in 3 weeks, first time staying there. I thought I read something about there being a shortcut through HRH parking lot or something but I can't find that thread now. Does anyone know if there is one, and if so how should we go? We'll have several young children with us so the shorter the walk the better!

THe shortcut is if your are staying at the Portofino, not the Royal Pacific. The Royal Pacific is at the other side of Citywalk from the HRH.

I think its this thread below from another poster (bubba's mom) you are looking for- copied below for your convenience. Original thread link is http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2482075

Quoted from post by bubba's mom: I took step-by-step pictures of the shortcut through the HRH parking lot to the parks.

Walk past the boat dock and bear right at the split. Unless you'd like to take the long walk, do NOT follow this sign. (After passing the 'garden walk entrance', I turned around to take a picture...facing the hotel.) Once you get to the corner, you can turn around and look behind you toward the hotel. This is the view crossing the street to HRH. Walking up toward the HRH....turning at your first right (before the hotel) into the self-parking lot. You can clearly see you are heading toward the old HRC (in the background). Just before you would exit the parking lot (to the access road), follow the parking lot and bear left. This is more self-parking. (See the Studios in the distance?) Walk through the parking lot, until you spot a 'break' in the trees/bushes on your right. There is a pathway hidden at parking spot #627. A short path to the parks. The path actually comes out near the bus stop.

eta: the first time we took this way, we actually took the access road next to the parking lot. stopping to take pix of old HRC, it was exactly 11 min. So, w/ cutting THRU the HRH parking lot, figure about the same amount of time or close to it.

There was a sign on the gate while we were there that said the gates were locked at 9 or 10 pm (sorry I can't remember which:confused3) so yes it is locked sometimes.

Our first couple of stays at HRH, there was a shortcut through the pool area to the Studios. It seemed to cut a few minutes of the walk. The last couple times there, the pool gate was locked and we had to walk around. Does anyone know what the status is now? Thanks!

Sorry to be dense, but where exactly is PBH in all that? We leave in about 24 hours for our first trip to Universal and I need to understand that map. :headache:

Thanks!
