Hello All,
I'm new to this board, I'm usually on Theme Parks board. I have a question concerning walking at WDW for exercise. DW and I have been walking to lose weight and do not want to stop while on vacation. While staying at the Beach Club on our next trip, we thought of walking around the boardwalk area first thing in the am before getting ready for the parks.

My question is, does anyone know the mileage one time around the boardwalk area.? We would want to cover 6 miles before we start our day.

thanks for your input....

I wondered why so many folks had read your question and no one had responded until I tried to find the information myself. The only thing I can find about distances of walking/running routes at WDW is this page on Robert's DisneyRunning.com site (and I'll bet you've already checked there yourself -- there's nothing specifically about Boardwalk, but there are some other routes there).

What you could do is a timed walk -- that is, take your normal pace per mile and estimate how much time it would take to finish 6 miles and just walk for that amount of time. It may not be as satisfying as knowing exactly how far you have walked, but many training plans do use time rather than mileage. Since this is a rare deviation from your normally measured routes, it would probably work just fine.

If you really need to get a feel for the mileage and you have an iPod already, a relatively inexpensive solution would be to buy the Nike+ Sport kit and a pouch to attach the sensor to your shoe. The Nike+ setup measures your pace and mileage (once you've calibrated it -- and they tell you how to do that), so you'd be able to get a fair estimate of the mileage/pace you did via your iPod.

The only other option I could suggest is buying a Garmin Forerunner 205 -- which is an expensive solution (unless you've always wanted one and this is the perfect excuse) but is extremely accurate (since it uses the GPS satellites to measure pace and distance). Just in case you're in a shopping mood, here's the link:

I hope you didn't feel ignored. I think most of the WISHers here were like me and just didn't know the answer to your question.

I'm pretty sure the distance from MGM (oops Disney's Hollywood Studios) to Epcot along the water walkway is about two miles. Walked it with my garmin, but it has been awhile and I don't remember exactly.

I don't know how helpful this is, but here are two pictures showing a mile between the walkway from MGM to Epcot (see the Swan?) and the entrance to Epcot by England.

Of course, that's one way and you're going all the way around. So, I'm voting about 2 miles also!

I like Wendy's option of timing yourself. Now I want a Garmin- how cool would it be to see how many total miles you could walk if you get your 6 done and then spend the day at the park!? Have a wonderful time!

According to Caskbill in one of his past posts on another board, the distance around the lake is 0.8 miles. Walking from the Boardwalk Pier to the International Gateway Entrance to Epcot is .56 miles. From the Boardwalk Pier to the Yacht/Beach Club Pier is .35 miles, although I am not sure which direction that goes.

FOr a six mile walk starting at Beach Club's lake entrance....

Walk along the path counterclockwise towards Yacht Club, following the lake. As you pass the Yacht, the path will cross a bridge over Crescent Lake. After coming off the bridge a pathway will go off to the right towards MGM. Foloow that sidwalk along the canal to the entrance of MGM. Return, making a right as you come back past Boardwalk and complete the loop around Crescent Lake. That's about 2.5 miles. Repeat for a total of 5 miles then reloop Creascent lake one more time for an additioanl 0.8 miles.

I ran this loop yesterday morning in the rain. The boardwalk was dimly lit (normal for early morning). The pathway to MGM was surprizing bright...much brighter than I remember. Just beware of the duck, frogs and jumping lizards...well the lizards are more of a day thing...

Thank you for all the info and now we can plan our walk early morning before our busy days in the parks.
thanks again.
