Walking Entrances and Nearby Hotels

Yes, the IHOP and Capt Kidd's are directly across the street from the walkway that leads to the Esplanade between DL and DCA. The security check and bus drop-offs are all along that path. I would consider anything along Harbor between Manchester and Disney Way an extremely short walk. South of Disney Way is still very walkable, we've walked from as far away as the Hilton Convention Center, although at that point the Toy Story parking shuttle is closer than the gates.

Thanks!! that's very helpful!

Your closest South Harbor hotel will be the Best Western Park Place Inn, located directly across the street from the entrance, about 5 minutes to the bag check lines. We've stayed there a number of times. The Park Vue, Del Sol and Tropicana would be very short walks as well, but I have no personal experience with those hotels. There are tons of hotels along South Harbor within decent walking distance you shouldn't have any trouble deciding on one! Happy planning!!

In my opinion the absolute shortest walk is from the Best Western Park Place Inn. That could vary (I guess) depending on where in the hotel your room is actually located. Last time we were there (Oct '15) we had a room just a few dozen yards from the front desk on the bottom floor. If you're further in the back of the property it could potentially be a longer walk than the PVI, but it's not significant either way. We pretty much always stay at Best Western - we've found the value to be excellent for the cost and location since it's really just a place to lay your head. The breakfast isn't anything to write home about but it's one less meal to purchase each day - really adds up for my family.

We've stayed at Best Western PPI, Tropicana, and Fairfield as well as many a bit further away. We've never had any problems with any of our stays, they were all just fine. I think I prefer Tropicana because I really like The Cove shop that's down that way for snacks, coffee, and beer/wine stops. But really, they're all close enough to hit Panera or The Cove before or after the parks. The staff at all three of these has always been very friendly and the prices are usually great.

It's interesting how some think BWPPI is closer than Park Vue. They're both right at the intersection and if anything, Park Vue looks closer to me. Either way, they're closer than a lot of places, even onsite ones.

I just looked at Google Maps and for some reason I had mentally placed PVI further north up Harbor (like where Tropicana is). Having now corrected my perception it looks like they're just about equal - PVI may have a slight edge there but they're so close I'd say it's just whether you've got a preference of one over the other.

I'm one of the believers that Park Vue is closer... My thoughts for this are two-fold:

(1) Best Western has an additional crosswalk to be traversed. (Granted, no one ever takes note or obeys the signal for it.)

(2) The crosswalk to the pedestrian entrance is in front of IHOP and Capt'n Kidd's... I'd argue a smidgen towards IHOP ;) IHOP is in Park Vue's parking lot.

Now, all this being said, we're talking about the difference, honestly of a few feet. However, having a "hall monitor" kid, we would have to stop at that crosswalk between Best Western and Capt'n Kidd's if it didn't say "walk," and that would tip the time-to-gate scales towards Park Vue....

Edited to add: Perhaps I should start saying that I'm a believer that Park Vue is *quicker* to the gates, when following traffic control devices, rather than closer, necessarily.

Exactly my thoughts :)

Have to laugh, I helped with Alex with the MP post.

Since it really depends on the actual room, in another post/article, the decision was to measure from the Front Lobby to the center of the Main Entrance Plaza (Star) in most posts.

I had a list that showed Hotels in the 1/4 mile range, which includes the Park Vue Inn, BWPPPI&MS and the GCH. (The three closest Hotels, in order)

Then we had a half mile list with some of the other Hotels near Park Vue Inn on Harbor and the DLH.

And the 3/4 mile range, including HoJo's and the Candy Cane Inn, plus the PPH.

I would add a new 1 mile group, which would include the three new Hotels at Harbor and Katella, and others.

But it is a good gauge to compare the Disney owned Hotels to the ones on Harbor.

So PVI is closest? Seems like it is to me, especially going by lobby or front of motel

Once again, how do you measure it?

I think the center star of the Main Entrance Plaza as one point can be agreed by all as a starting point.

If you are looking at the entire property and the closest part of it, Park Vue Inn wins, but it is the section that is sub-leased to the IHOP. (.22 of a mile). BWPPPI&MS is .23 of a mile (Captain Kidd's)

Of course, the Grand California wins, but hard to compare as to where the property line is between DCA, DtD and the GCH, especially when part of the GCH is right above the stores. I am using the Starbucks on the west end of DtD and get .17 of a mile

Now, next point is the lobby, but the Park Vue Inn has moved it a couple of times, so I am using the current location, which is right behind the Cold Stone Creamery.

Park Vue Inn - .2517 of a mile

BWPPPI&MS - .2522 of a mile

GCH - .26 of a mile

So once again PVI wins, but really I would say it is a tie, and that is what I usually post in response to the question about what is the closest Hotel to which is the closest.

Now, let look if you get unlucky and the farthest room from the park.

GCH (the Villa part) has the 'worst room at .37 of a mile.

BWPPPI&MS- .35 of a mile

PVI - .34 of a mile.

GCH (before the Villa addition) - .32 of a mile

So the loser is the GCH in getting a long walk, but once again we are talking a few feet longer, no real difference between the three Hotels/Motels in walking distance.

Interesting, thank you. So sad this will change with the new bridge :(

Will it? I think many of the Hotels are seriously looking at Disney's offer of a "rear" entrance at back of their Motel (east side). I know that the Park Vue Inn wants to do a major remodel, and has an issue that is working through the Anaheim City Council. (The assurance that the city is no longer planning to build a light rail system from ARTIC to Disneyland and the Convention Center). So that is one property that could easily add the feature.

Also the following Motels can easily add one..

BWPPPI&MS, Anaheim Desert Inn & Suites, BWP Anaheim Inn.

The one property with an major remodeling issue is the Tropicana, since they would have to lose a few rooms to add an access tunnel. (Not cheap, as they still have to support the upper levels). But if everyone else has one, well, they will have to decide if it is worth it to lose the room revenue long term, and the costs of the remodel.

I think even with the back entrances at those motels, the walk will be much longer not being able to just walk across the street. Don't you?

OK, based on the proposed plan, here is the walk based on the need to go through the Security Check, and then the ramps and bridge. I got .46 of a mile from the Park Vue Inn, based on the fact they will do demolition and rebuild as a Hotel, using a "close" room. Here is the marked map. So it got moved from the GCH group of Hotels/Motels that are close, and move into the Disneyland Hotel 1/2 of a mile group, which will include the Motels that add the back ewntrance.

And info on the Park Vue Inn remodel.

Let me add that if you look at the walk from the GCH Villas at a close room at the New Park Vue, they are basically the same.

And things change, look at the additional walk folks need to make now from the PPH to the ESPN Zone for the security check. So yes, it is longer, but not that much. And there will be the ART new Route that will service the one block of Hotels on Harbor from Manchester to Disney Way as a second option but almost the same walk from the ART Drop-off to the Main Entrance Plaza. (.42 of a mile)

For those needing ADA/wheelchair assistance, they could take the ART and then a short walk to the special Disneyland ADA bus that would take the person to a new drop off area (more than likely near Harbor Pointe) and then a short walk to the parks after using the limited Security Check. (about .15 of a mile as an educated guess to the exact drop off point will be).
