Anyone know how far of a walk it is from the Doubletree at the Entrance to Universal to the gates of IOA? Is it a reasonable walk for two adults, a 12 yr old, 6 yr old, and a 68 yr old on an ECV or would we be better off just paying for the parking, especially considering we'd get a handicapped spot?

You will be better off taking the car and using the handicapped spaces. It's not a long walk but having to cross Kirkman Road is no small challenge and the ECV will make it harder.

This is not the first time I have read about the crossing of Kirkman Road. Is thre no traffic light?

I was wondering that too. On Google maps it looks like there is a nice cross walk, and I believe I see traffic lights too. Once you cross Kirkman it appears you are right where the parking garages are for Universal, then, right?

Yes there is a light at Kirkman and crossing it is not that bad but does get busy but we have stayed at the doubletree and have walked and had no trouble and will be doing it agian in July cause we are staying at the holiday inn main gate to universal and will be walking

There is a light at the intersection of Kirkman Road and Major Blvd. which runs into the Universal property. I'm not trying to scare you but Kirkman Road is a major route through the area and is always busy. You just need to be careful in crossing. The other advantage of driving is the return trip. If it's really hot or raining, you'd have quite a walk back in less than ideal conditions. Just something to think about.

Yes, the return trip was definitely something I was thinking about too. I guess, though, from looking at the maps it hardly seems like we would be walking farther from the gates to the parking garage, than from the gates to the hotel. With the $14 charge for parking I am not sure I can convince my cheapskate husband that walking isn't worth it  How far of a walk is it from the handicapped spots to the gates of the parks?

All the parking spots are pretty much the same distance from the park gates. The only difference is the level. Level 3 is the main level but there are moving sidewalks and elevators/escalators if you aren't on that level. I think the handicapped spaces are on level 3 so you wouldn't have to deal with anything but the moving sidewalks.
