Walking back to HoJo at night?

After a lot of research, my DW and myself booked our very first trip to DL for October 2010:woohoo: and we will be staying at the HoJo. I know that it's not that far of a walk to the front gate at DL, 8-10 minutes? My question however is how well lit and how safe is the walk back after the sun goes down? We are already super excited about making our very first trip out west. Thanks for your help.

You will be fine. I went in the summer with all girls and we walked back very late at night with no problems. If you walk down the Disney side it is not very well lit, but if you cross the street to the hotel side it is a little brighter but more crowded!;)

The people you'll meet along the way are CMs going home, fellow guests going back to hotels, and perhaps a homeless person or two settling in for the night on a bus bench. That's been my experience, at least.

If you are nervous, just walk the slightly longer way by crossing at the big crosswalk and walking along the hotel side of the street.

If you aren't nervous, do the shortcut way of walking along the disneyland side...fewer people but that makes the walk faster. You are in full sight of cars (who will be coming towards you, which I actually feel is safer than having my back to them, as long as I'm on a sidewalk, which you are on that walk), hearing distance of the hotel-side, viewing distance almost the whole way (there's some landscaping at one point in the median)...

I feel safe. Of course one must keep one's head up, eyes moving, being aware...no headphones or talking on the phone, etc. But that's just normal safety.

We are HoJo Fans and always are coming back pretty late at night. In the morning most people will say to cross Harbor at the light in front of Hojo's and walk down the DL side of the street (quicker and less busy). At night, do the opposite. Walk down the hotel side of Harbor and it's not a problem at all. There are hotels all along there and McDonalds is well populated even late. I'd say the worst part of that side is just the last bit crossing the street to the hotel and walking through the parking lot (if you are in the building in teh back although you could cut through the hotel grounds rather than the parking lot). I wouldn't hesitate to walk it with my family. I probably would even walk it alone without concern but I do hesitate just a bit there as I don't like walking anywhere alone at night :-)

Don't walk the DL side at night though as it is dark and there is a bus stop with some not so desirables!

I walked both sides alone very late at night in March without issue. As the others have said, the DL side is darker, but I never felt unsafe.

We've walked back to HoJo's on the Disney side in the evening and that was fine ~ however walking on the other side of the street would have more people to "walk with" and better lighting.

Thanks everyone for all your responses. I didn't really think there would be much of an issue at night, but I hadn't read anything on walking back at night so I thought I would ask to ease my mind alittle. :)

We stay at the HoJo a LOT.....we always walk and have never once had any kind of issue no matter what time we are walking. And we rarely walk down the hotel side of the street, only if we are wanting to grab a bite to eat on the way to the parks in the morning or back to the room at night. The bus stop has NEVER been a problem for us.
