Walking and Waiting

Need some advice.

Taking my mother for her first visit to Disney World in November for Thanksgiving weekend and days after. She will be 73 at that time. She still works full time (because she likes to) but its a sit down job. She is not able to walk for long distances and stand in line for long periods of time. Disney is a lot of walking and waiting. We plan to take it easy with her. There are times she can walk but will need to sit. We are discussing a scooter or a wheel chair. My question is this. If she is able to walk some will she be able to sit somewhere close by while we stand in queue for a ride then join us closer to getting on the ride? Or same if wheel chair. Can she sit somewhere in it and then stand to get in line. Don't want to make a lot of people in line mad but I want her to be able to experience some rides. She is not a thrill rider of'course. Any suggestions?

Most queues at WDW are wheelchair accessible, so you can take the wheelchair right in line with you.

:welcome: to the DISboards!

Unfortunately, there are no seats or benches within the queues, and due to switchbacks and line locations there is no way to have someone sit outside and join you after you get through most of the line. WDW recommends those with stamina concerns use a mobility device; this is the only way to guarantee having a place to sit and rest. Your mom might benefit from using an ECV; she is welcome to park it and walk shorter distances when she chooses, or ride the ECV straight through most lines when she's tired. Other alternatives that might work for her include a wheelchair or rollator (a walker with a seat).

Enjoy your vacation!

She can take the ECV/Wheelchair right in line with her. Most of the disney queue lines wrap around a lot so it would be nearly impossible for her to sit outside of the ride queue and then join you later when you get closer to boarding the ride. My suggestion would be to take the ECV in the ride queue with u and if she needs to get up and stretch or walk a little she can but then you have it with you when she needs to sit down. Also if she wants to walk a bit while not standing in a line they have stroller parking where she can easily park her ECV and get up and walk a bit to stretch or shop or do whatever. Just remember to take the key with you.

Thinking the ECV might be a good choice and then she can park it if she chooses and can walk and stand in line when she feels like it. Thank you!

Great tip. Thanks!

Something else she might want to consider is a rollator. That way she will always have a seat with her!
