walking a reservation

When you pull it up on the booking tool here is the message (it is the same for all the older resorts):

Sleeps 8 – 9th guest can be accomodated, but must provide their own bedding and linens

So it is air mattress and bring your own sheets. Easy solution.

we will just our kid in bed with us since we will take the king room.....but you can put like 4 kids in queen bed lol......

has anyone booked 9 into a 2 bedroom dedicated at vwl before????? we are 6 adults and 3 kids 10, 4 and 4

KAT4DISNEY is exactly right, you can book 9 in dedicated 2 bdrm at VWL. They are now making this accommodation, because in the 2 bdrm lock-off at VWL, the studios were renovated with a pull down trundle bed (which you won't get in the dedicated 2 bdrm). In the 2 bdrm lock-off this is a case where you actually have more beds to accommodate a larger party. For you, this might work out better. Something to consider, but you lose a queen size bed for a pullout couch w/the lock-off (in the studio). If you can bring and air mattress w/sheets for one of the kids (the blanket you can get at the VWL), IMO that would be the best fit.

Have you considered looking at a Grand Villa at OKW? Not as well located as VWL, but with all those adults, maybe the bigger digs at the reasonable point price could be your best match. More to think about...

Wow I didn't realize you could bring an air mattress. That seems like the kind of thing they'd maybe turn a blind eye on but not necessarily encourage. However, clearly since it's in the booking tool though they are okay with it. Thanks for that tip!

Same holds true for 1 bdrms that don't have a trundle bed or sleeper chair incorporated (i.e. SSR allows for 5 in a 1 bdrm with the same stipulation "must provide their own bedding and linens"). I wouldn't call it turning a blind eye on the part of Disney, more an evening of the number of guests allowed in the same type of room in other resorts.

Well, I now see one other way walking a reservation can backfire on you. If you book a reservation (or two) and plan to walk them AND you have used all/most all of your points doing so, then, on the day your preferred reservation opens and all of the days are there (but you know it's popular), you have to wait until 9 to call MS to adjust but someone else can just come online and book the entire stay you wanted. Or, you have to risk cancelling the ones you have and re-book. Today that almost happened to me. Luckily I called right at 9 a.m. and the cm who helped me quickly modify so I would get it, but it was a close call she said - she was getting a strange message at one point. Very nerve-wracking! The only reason I was walking the reservation in the first place was because my DIL has already requested that week off since I mentioned it - she's a manager in a pharmacy and has no flexibility. I don't think I'll do that again! :scared: Next time I'll book when something is available and if someone can't go, oh well.

Walked a reservation only once. Unfortunately, got stuck with 2 different views for a BWV studio, so had to change rooms, which I hate to do. I offered to keep the room with the standard view (because I didn't care about the view that trip), but CM said they couldn't do that, so move it was. Probably will not do that again. Not worth it for me.

I've done this at VGC - want 5 nights, Sunday to Friday. I book Friday to Friday and then drop Friday & Saturday. It gives me a 2 day jump on the dates I really want.

I know the OP asked this question over a year ago, but my answer's different with experience. We just tried to book a 2 BR at Kidani at 7 months. Even calling within the first couple minutes, we barely got one. Sorry, folks-the grandchildren REALLY wanted those giraffes so we should have walked the reservation (never thought I'd be a proponent of walking a reservation).

My experience is on the other side of walking. Tried to book a standard view studio 11 months out at Boardwalk for 3rd week Oct 2017. It was available the night before but gone at 8:01 am 3 days in a row when I tried to book. So I booked Boardwalk view instead which was appx 40 points more. I could see days open up behind my ressie, but because I had to borrow points I couldn't make another and know it would be consecutive for all days so I just stuck with the Boardwalk view.

Then I read on a thread someone started walking a reservation in September for a November date because it was important. So I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who had to spend extra points during that time. I can understand a couple weeks walking, but feel 2 months may be excessive. But still looking forward to the Boardwalk.
