Walking a reservation question

So I’m new to dvc and not looking to do this.
But next week is my 7th month for aulani and I want a 2 bedroom ocean front.

So I have been checking everyday and it seems the day at exactly 7 months is dropping off but days after are fully available. Seemed odd to me. I mean are people doing one day trips or adding a back day after dropping first day. When I called member services she told me she had another person today stating she couldn’t book aulani today as her first day but rest of the week is fully available. Seemed real odd now. I feel like the member service rep was trying to tell me this is what’s going on.

Is this an example of walking the reservation or just a coincidence for the last 8 days ? I’m going to look tommorow again but if that day drops and keeps the same pattern how would I ever get a booking for my self.

So anyway if it is. Can some one explain to me how to do it. Lol.

Maybe you're counting wrong, and your seven months doesn't start until the day after you think it does?

Anyway, start as early as possible with your last day landing on your desired check-in date (assuming the points charge for the booking is the same and you have enough) and keep walking every day until your desired reservation is reached.

But how do I walk. Can I change online or have to call in every day to do it?

It’s that easy? Just modify and change dates back a day. And do that everyday ?
Yup, it's that easy. I did that for an Aulani reservation recently. I just logged in every morning and modified my booking by subtracting the first day and adding the last day until I had the dates i wanted. The booking number remains the same too.

If they are disappearing and not coming back, it’s not walking. It means people are booking at 7 months what they want

Walking happens when someone books and moves it forward and that puts the day back.

For example, if I was booking today for October 8th and it’s gone right at 8 am..but tomorrow the 9th is gone but the 8th is back, it’s a clue it’s walking.

Walking at 7 months doesn’t work the same way it does at 11 months since an Aulani owner could come and book days to interuppt the walk and you are stuck.

If you can get a trip booked, then do it and modify it forward and hope it works!

If you're walking at 11 months, there's no real benefit or need to move it every day. You only need to move it every N - 1 days where N is your length of stay. When you're walking at 7 months, there's benefit to moving it daily because the 11 month owners can always swoop in and cut you off. For that reason, a 7 month walk is never guaranteed, even if you're moving it daily.

Oh and if you're walking through a period that's more expensive than your end dates, make sure you don't accidentally borrow points that you don't need because you won't be able to un-borrow them.

But why is it just the one day exactly at 7 months? And free after? Again I’m new so no clue. But seems like if today was first day of vaca for people they would book more. Memeber service lady said very odd that today is gone and tons of availability tommorow. Idk. I’ll keep trying.

You could always book what you can before and after, if that's the case, and waitlist that one day.

It is booked at exactly 7 months as that is the first available date for non owners to book or for some people, walking.
Now the answer to the question as to why it is bookable afterwards is we just don't know.
All we can tell from the calendar is that the room is available which could mean 1 is available or all 85 dedicated or 104 lockoff are.
Some people have more points than others to be able to walk while others may really just want the room for 1 night.
Others might be trying to get these rooms before they go from 69 to 84 points a night on 6/26/23.

I’m going to try tommorow. That seems like the move. Start a few days early. Thanks for help. Just hope tommorow is available.
Remember it opens up at 8 AM EST on the website.

That leads to another question is it 8 AM from the atomic clock, a sun dial, your cellphone or where to get the time that matches Disney's time clock.

Best of luck.

BTW I would try for the dedicated as you don't have to compete with people booking studios plus it has an extra half bath that way. :)

It means that all the rooms for check in were booked immediately but the next day ..and future dates are reflecting days where check out is occurring but can’t yet be booked by non Aulani owners because the 7 month window hasn’t opened yet.

Say you have 100 rooms and 25 were checking out 7 months from today ..yesterday the system showed those 25 available starting today since that is when they open up. This morning at 8 am, you now have access to those 25. If more than 25 are trying for them then people get shut out However, it will show rooms for the 7 month window starting tomorrow since people must be checking out.

The system doesn’t show how many are available any given day. Only MS can see that. So what you to see could represent only a few rooms.

It sounds like what you are seeing is more owners are snagging that room at 7 months for dates they want and competition is difficult.

When you see more rooms gone farther out than the 7 months it means there are no check outs that day and owners have them reserved

Exactly, the missing piece in all of this discussion is that we have people checking out on these dates, not just the walkers "checking in." So the lack of availability on the exact 7 month day is the overlap of the legitimate guests with real reservations and the walkers who are just rolling through. The reason there's availability tomorrow is because some share of the legitimate guests are checking out tomorrow, so those rooms will become available.

@Kingdome8, tomorrow morning at 8am, you'll be competing with any new walkers there might be to get access to those newly-available Room 1 and Room 2 in this example.

Well now they are disappearing and coming back. Lol

Got in this morning right at 8. I wanted to try and scam a week with “walking”. First site says please wait while confirming then “having issues please try again.”Lol. Of course anything exactly 7 months is gone by 8am and 30 secs. Sucks.

Oh well lost out to more experienced dvc scammers. Although legal.

This is Disney IT. I do it every day. Some days the website doesn't work at all. I need some wiggle room for failure, which is often on this terrible website.

So waitlist it. People walking will walk right by the dates you want.
