Hi!

In December my DD & I are going to WDW with 2 cousins & an aunt & uncle. We won't be with them constantly, but we will want to be with them often.

I am considering getting a set of walkie talkies. Can anyone recommend a specific brand with a good coverage area.

Thanks!

MY family as well as extended family bought the motorolla brand radios.
I have the talkabout 280.
They come in different colors which is cool, these are the smallest ones available I believe
They also have 14 different channels with 38 selectors codes on each channel . They can
be dropped and still work, and the many codes come in handy as so many radios are at
Disney. (and it is frustrating when a stranger tries to talk to you instead of your family member)
These are kind of expensive, ( about 100 each) but you may find a good sale!!
You can also use them when shopping ect.. because my hubby and I go separate ways.

WE had gotten a set of cheaper ones but they are not quite as long range and clear. (unwired brand)

Also, My husband says GRMS are now available to the public, and these are about 5 mile
range. They used to be only available to business. Might be something to look into.

Good luck w/whatever you decide.

I can agree with the Motorola Talkabout radios. We purchased the 250 model (Which is pretty close to the 280 except the 280 uses a ni-cad battery I think???)

We bought a total of 4 of these so both adults and kids could have one. We find them relatively reliable, but sometimes have difficulty when parties are at opposite sides of the park. If the batteries are at full power, they seem to work fine, but when the batteries start losing strength, so does the reception of the radio.

We find that we use them quite often in other instances other than Disney such as High School football games, at the mall and I carry one when I jog in the evenings in case the family needs me for anything (or in case I need them!).

Overall I would say they are a good buy and you may wany to look at www.ebay.com or www.ubid.com to get them at lower retails than you can find at your local store.

For what its worth, the 250/280 models don't seem to be sold any longer. The most comparable current Motorola models seem to be the 6200 and 6220.

Thank you very much everyone for your advice I really appreciate it! Now I have to decide if I want to invest in a pair of these.

Thanks!
