Looking for a good walkie talkie
to use at the theme park

Any recommentations

Would prefer to get something that
does not need a FCC license to operate

This has been discussed on these boards before, you might want to SEARCH for previous threads.

FRS (Family Radio Service) radios don't need a license.
They have a range of up to a mile or two and are the type recommended for this use. Some units have over 30 "channels" (although many are really just digital "sub-channels" of the actual frequency in use) to choose from for individual use.
The PROBLEM is that at WDW there may be hundreds of them in use at the same theme park. Finding a clear channel to communicate may be a big problem.

Many have decided the best way to talk when you really NEED to is to use standard cellular phones. They may cost more to use under RAOM conditions, but they WILL work when other types of wireless devices won't be reliable.

You'll want one with the extra channels. I found http://www.leeselect.com/uniden/frs_combos_flash.htm on google -- I couldn't remember "FRS" and "GMRS". We had the standard issue FRS and had difficulties. a) The range is not that great b) the biggest problem is that half the world's walkie talkie users are all at Disney World. You say "Hello" and you'll get 2 or 3 responses.

We have the Motorola Talkabouts fr60's. We really like them. We have used them numerous times at Disney and other places, never a problem.

I would suggest cell phone to cell phone if you have the same carrier. Usually cell to cell calls are free; at least with my Sprint phones they are with my particular plan. The talkabouts are popular, but IMO i think they sound kinda garbled. I don't think i've ever clearly heard a descent message through one of those things in the park. I always need to ask someone to repeat what they said. The more expensive units that give you subchannels is good as you have less of a chance of someone using the same channel and making the conversation with your other party next to impossible.
