Anybody know of a good walkie-talkie app for smart phones that would help our family communicate in the parks? I wish the MDE had a feature like the DCL app does to communicate with your party without using data, especially since connections seem very spotty in WDW.

I'm lost. If you have phones, why not just call each other? Or group text? Cell service at WDW is pretty good no matter what company you have.

Apps that would communicate within the parks would by their very nature need data (or wifi, which I feel is even worse in the parks). I agree. Just call each other.

When I need to use my phone for communications on wifi rather than data I use FaceBook Messenger (I don't always have cell reception at work, but I do have wifi access there). If your entire party isn't on FB, though, you could try searching for other wifi-based messenger apps--Lifehacker has an article full of recommendations. You can usually use those apps to place voice calls as well, but I've found text tends to be the most convenient when I'm on the go.
