I know there are several of our WISH Team mates who are suffering with injuries right now. This is just a gentle reminder that there is no shame in walking. There are times when running just won't work for you. Walking will keep you strong and healthy and then when you are recovered you can go back to running if you want to.

I'm not anti running, I wish I still had the option of doing both, maybe someday. But walking works all your muscles and is way easier on your knees and joints.

I tried for 2 years to keep running injured and watched my running times get worse and worse. I finally got tired of limping up to a starting line because I wanted to do the race.

If you are just starting out walking can build your body to where it can withstand the pressures of running long distance.

So if you have to lay off the running for a while we WISH walkers welcome you.

You see, I was thinking:

Walkers have the best ... view of the backsides of thousands of runners (at least early in the event, before the walkers pass the burnt out runners). NOTE: This commentary is not based on personal experience ... yet.

Walkers have the best ROI(Return on Investment). We get to spend more time at a race for the same amount of money the runners spend;)

I never thought of that Robert, but yes our cost per hour of entertainment for the Goofy is much less.

Thank you for posting this! I consider myself a runner, but am frequently injured ( running is good for you!) and this year I am having a tough training year. I have come to the conclusion that I will be walking most of the ToT 13k. Months ago, when I signed up, I had been hoping to run all of it. I always feel self-conscious when I am out at the trail training because I am walking. Tomorrow morning I will be thinking of your wise words!

I love your line about loving halloween and being afraid of butterflies. That is just so wonderfully cute.

Be warned if you are walking with us at ToT that the party is in the back of the pack, be prepared to laugh a lot. :yay:

I am just coming off a heel injury and have spent the last month and a half walking/running. I run a half mile and then walk a half mile. I can still manage to make around a 10 minute mile which is not bad all around. The people I am in the TOT race with are walkers but one of them is up for the walk/run regimen so we will probably be doing that.
