I am very seriously considering cancelling my res for CR this summer and renting points from a member to stay DVC. There would be rental details removed. I would really love the extra space and the W/D.

Anyway, I would probably use the David's site which is advertised on this board. Is this safe? Would I need to pay the whole amount up front? I would need to give my cc to the member? Is that correct? That is kind of scary.

Is it correct that I can add the DDP to the ressie, even if I don't buy park Tix? I an considering a split stay and buying all the park days with the first WDW ressie then doing room-only and ddp at DVC. I can do that?

Thanks

Park tickets and dining would be separate from you reservation with DVC. You would need to get park tickets on your own and if you choose to do the dining plan, you could arrange that with the person you rent from.

With a DVC rental, you must rely on the owner to make and change all reservations including adding subtracting names to the reservation and dining plans etc.

I have rented points 2 times, and am so happy I did, staying in the villa's (1bdrm and up)is great ! the washing machines and multiple bathrooms with jettubs are a bonus also.

I rented from the disboard members twice, it is a better value than David's vacation club usually.

You just look through the boards for the points you want (the fun part is trying to get them, because there are usually many people who want the points)

I always pay through paypal, it is the safer route. there is also a standard contract available for both parties to sign for extra assurance. (if you need a copy of this ,pm me and i will send you a copy) with the contract I pay the first 25% at signing, and then another 25% at 6 months before the trip and at 3 months the balance is due.

good luck:thumbsup2

You must now pay for the DDP in full when you add it, this changed this year. You would have to arrange for the owner to do this, and you would have to negotiate how to pay for it.
Renting points for this summer may be a bit difficult. Owners had home resort advantage 11 months in advance.
Good Luck

As of last October, DDP must be paid for at the time it is added to the reservation. It is no longer paid for on arrival.

Thanks for all the help. I didn't think about using PayPal. That would be good. I was thinking it was against the DIS rules to discuss renting from member - maybe that is Buying I am thinking of?? I would love to rent from a Disser, but as someone said, maybe it is too late to try for summer?

It is definitely not too late to rent from a member for this summer. I just rented to two renters for June and August.

David's service is very good and I would not hesitate to contact www.DVCrequest.com . I think they require a modest deposit when you make your request and then full payment once the reservation has been confirmed. If your request cannot be confirmed, the deposit is refunded. We have not seen any complaints about using DVCrequest.com.

You can also respond to any of the "Points for Rent" threads on our DVC Rent/Trade Board and see if a member can assist with your dates.

Good luck!

There is no security through PayPal for the member, so not all members will use PayPal. In fact some members have been burned by PayPal.

And the payment terms belong to the member who owns the points. The non-member setting terms how they plan to pay the member may not go over well with a member. They may have their own contract that they choose to use. It's a bit presumptive for the non-member to present their own contract for renting. Some member want a deposit to make the reservation and the rest once the reservation is made. Especially if their points can't be banked should you decide to cancel and you've only paid 50% or less.

Plus the closer you get to the reservation date, a member might want half to make the reservation and the rest once the reservation is made. And many members offer no cancellation policy at all. Kind of like Priceline. It's your reservation. If you choose not to go, you lose what you paid.

I am stating how my rentals were negotiated, my last rented did not know of any type of contract and was happy that I had a copy of my last one to use, as well as the payment terms stipulated in this contract.

I beleive this contract was drawn up by a DVC member and is used by many.
there is much in this contrat to protect the owner as well as the rentee, so tht all parties are clear about payment and cancellation.
Although it is not a notarized document, this along with paypal should be enough to help you or the owner from being burned.

I've rented some of my points out quite a few times. I didn't have a contract with the first rental, my second renter had a sample so we modified and used that. The terms are quite different than stitchaholic mentions.

It's totally up to the member and the renter; there is no standard. I ask for 50% after the reservation is made and the balance later. I've allowed renters to cancel up to 2 months before check-in - as long as I won't loose any flexibility with those points. I don't take PayPal so have always asked for a personal check - there's plenty of time for it to clear before the check-in date.

The contract seems to be a very good way to make sure that both parties understand and agree to the details. I don't know how binding it would be legally. The member always owns the reservation, the renter does not.
