Walk me through RCI booking...

Thanks for all the responses and experiences - it's helpful to know what kinds of challenges and bumps others have encountered so we can make sure to double-check on things we need to double-check on.

When we put in our wait list, the CM took our credit card number for the $95 fee but she said they will not charge it until such time as our match comes in. She said they go ahead and get the information so that once the match hits, then they can go ahead and proceed with the booking rather than having to get the information from you then -- and because if a match doesn't happen, then they don't have to go through the refunding process.

I asked if our points would be tied up while waiting and she said no, they would not be tied up. She also said that it would be an automatic booking / taking of the points when the match comes through. I asked if we would get the confirmation letter in the mail and she said yes, and that we should also be able to see it in our DVCMembers page under vacation details.

So we'll see how it all turns out.

Regarding Mountain Loft, the reviews on TripAdvisor all say it's a nice enough resort but there are issues with being able to hear your neighbors - that the sound carries through the walls a bit more readily than most people would prefer.

Because we had already considered going to the TN/KY area to visit relatives for our spring break and because we will be driving rather than flying, we are ok if the reservation doesn't work out for us -- we'll just go back to our original plan.

But I was wondering for people who do need to book airfare - how close do you wait before cancelling your request and going to plan B?

ML for the newer section is seriously lacking on insulation between the lockoff sections. It only seems to be an issue if you get part of the lockoff, not between whole 2 BR units. IMO, one needs to be able to ride the exchange request as long as possible, usually at least until about 2-3 months prior as a min. For air fare issues it's often better to get your tickets set and tailor you request around it than wait on the request and then try to get air.
