I'm leaving in 2 weeks and I booked the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour. I'm not finding any info on the tour except a paragraph I read in the Unoffical Guide. The guide says we're served lunch, is this true? Also, any thoughts on the tour, ideas of what to expect?

Thanks!

I think the tour was great! Lots of fun and I have been to DL tons of times. I am sure it depends on your guide of course. Lots of information. Yes, you do get lunch and its pretty good (well as good as Disney food can get without eating at a nice restaurant).

I don't want to blow anything, but you do get to see some very cool things and get some information you probably didn't know.

Thanks for the info. I'm excited to do this as I love anything to do with Walt Disney history.

I just did the tour last week on my first trip and it was highly disappointing. :sad2:

Our tour guide was literally a brand-new employee and just didn't know what he was doing or saying. I actually corrected him a few times. The rides were not special ones, there was alot of walking back and forth across the park.

Lunch was nice, but it was to the left of the City Hall outside were the tables are. I would have liked to be inside in a restaraunt.

Our group itself was a not an altogether bright group either. Our guide walked at a super slow pace that drove me to madness.

I'm disappointed and was probably better of doing the Welcome to Disneyland tour. Or maybe it was a combo of a bad tour guide and odd group of people.

I was also a little disappointed with the tour. The tour itself wasn't bad, but our tour guide didn't provide as much information as I would have liked. Our ride on the Jungle Cruise was just a regular ride, there was no behind the scenes information provided. It was interesting being able to enter Club 33. We didn't see the club itself but I can now say that I walked through the door.

It's not a fair comparison, but I kept mentally comparing it to the Keys To The Kingdom Tour at Disney World. While there are some similarities to the two tours, they are actually very different. The biggest difference being that the Keys To The Kingdom Tour is truly a backstage tour while A Walk In Walt's Footsteps is entirely on stage. But even when the Florida tour was on stage, the tour guide provided many more hidden details than our guide did at Disneyland. On the Jungle Cruise, we had our own boat and the tour guide kept pointed out hidden things to us.

The lunch itself was decent. At checkin, we were allowed to select from 4 or 5 different sandwiches, chips or fruit, and a drink. They also provided 2 pretty good cookies.

So overall, I can't complain about the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour. I just wish there was more information provided.

We are doing this tour on our upcoming trip, I REALLY hope it is better than you have described! :confused3

We have done:
Yuletide Magic
Keys To the Kingdom
Magic Behind Our Steam Trains
Tour of the Land @ Epcot
And - Undiscovered Future World @ Epcot

All of our tour experiences so far have ranged from - 'That was interesting...' to 'We'll definitely have to do that again some time!'

All were good - some better than others - but all were informative and interesting!

We Disney nuts :woohoo: So - I'm hoping for some really interesting and in depth history of where Walt walked!

I'm doing this tomorrow... Hopefully it's better than people are saying. I LOVED keys to the kingdom. :(

I'm wondering...of those of you that were disappointed in the Walt tour....do you consider yourself really serious Disney fans? I've thought about taking these tours but my daughters and I have read just about every biography out there on Walt, religiously keep up on these boards and several other forums, have read most of allears' archives, etc. I personally think my daughters could be tour leaders (and one of them is planning to work for Disney, the other "might"). I have hesitated spending this kind of money if it's just going to be a rehash of what we already know.....but then I start wondering what I don't even know that I don't know, lol.

My opinion is it will mostly be a rehash. We walked around with headsets and stopped and listened to recordings from long ago of things Walt said - often at places where he said it. But I had heard all those before.

I have done two other Disney tours - the BackStage Magic at WDW this past March - totally rocked! - and the DCA Segway tour the same week as Walk with Walt last summer. The Segway tour did let you see some backstage items and I preferred that a lot more.

The Segway tour is now down because of DCA construction but I suspect it will come back next summer and if so we will do it again.

OK - We just got back from our grand California Adventure! IT WAS AMAZING!!

We did so much in 9 days that I still can't process it all!!!

One of the things we did was the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, and we really enjoyed it!

We have done the Keys to the Kingdom tour and the two are completely different!

You have to be a Disney fan to REALLY enjoy the history behind it all - the attention to detail in the park - and the life the Walt himself breathed into Disneyland.

You can't expect a behind the scenes tour of Disneyland - that's not what the purpose of the tour is. It's not about how the magic is made and maintained. It's about so much more than that. It is a look back at what made Disneyland Walt's park.

While there is room for improvement in the depth of coverage - I really feel the tour gives a great look into the story behind the park and each of its lands.

Will everyone enjoy the tour? No - and while I say that, let me make sure to be precise in the reason why I say that. The tour isn't fast fast, it isn't exciting, and it isn't 'profound'. If you LOVE Walt Disney, you will get a few tears in your eye when you realize the love, passion, and spirit that made Walt say that Disneyland will never be done. Museums are for things that are done perfectly the first time - however, tastes change, trends change, and what 'we' think a good time it changes. Disneyland continues to change because the park's leaders want it to stay relevant, exciting, and true to form.

For guests who have never been to Disneyland - but have visited WDW many times - I highly suggest this tour be the first thing you do..... Walk into the park, go to the tours area (on the left) - and make your first trip into the park.... A Walk In Walt's Footsteps

The tour will be best that way - not only as an intro to the park, but also as a step back in time to put yourself in the park from the very beginning - construction, to opening day, to the various enhancements that Walt himself had a hand in refining.
