Sorry this is going to be kind of long.

I was wondering if anyone has gone to one of the Disney hotels the same day they wanted to check in to see if they had availability and gotten a lower rate than what was posted on the website?

I used to work in a very busy hotel that was sold out almost every night, but I know that if we did have last minute availability we would sell the rooms for as low as $99 per night. The same rooms that we would normally sell for $220 and up. I was just wondering if anyone has ever used this strategy at DL?

We do have a room booked at the Anaheim plaza and then moving over to the DLH for the last 3 nights, but I want to keep this trip on a budget so I have been considering just not doing DLH at all. But then I thought if it can work at West Edmonton Mall, maybe it will work at Disney too?

TIA

I'm not sure, maybe someone else will know, but make sure you take into consideration that the hotel you currently have a reservation with likely has a 24-hour cancellation policy, so if you did go to DLH and by some chance that night they had a room available for cheaper, you would have to pay at least one night's rate, if not the entire STAY's rate, and the previously booked hotel for cancelling at the last minute.

We kind of had a spur of the moment trip April 2008 (Weekday). I didn't call Disnyland to book ahead of time. We only stayed one night and we checked in around 4 pm. They could only give me a deal for my AP, that was all.

I haven't done this personally, but when we were checking into the DLH in May a gentleman was trying to get a room for that night and I overheard the quote being $275 for the night...so I'm thinking probably not. I'm sure someone else has first-hand experience.

In 1996, I was a castmember working at Disneyland and decided I wanted to stay the night at the Disneyland Hotel that evening. So I went there that evening and asked what the price would be with a castmember rate (It was like $175), but the "walk in rate" was $99 (even LESS than my castmember rate). Bonus, I ended up staying the night. I have not tried this since then. Funny that you should mention it because I was just telling DH that we should see if we could get a "walk in rate" and I was wondering if anybody else had ever done this. Here's hoping to someone canceling and us getting an awesome deal.

In July, when the posted rate was over $300 per night....we stayed somewhere else where we ended up being not happy. In the evening I called over to the DLH to see just maybe.... the rate was $179 for a premium so over we went the next morning, and they even had a room ready for us at 10 am!! So yes, if they are not full you can get a "walk in" cheaper rate, I would call over first. The hotel we were in at the time, although we were booked for several more days had a policy that if you checked out by noon, that was the end of your reservation, in other words you did not have to tell them in advance you were checking out in order to not be charged for the room. It's worth a try, and I may do it this time too, even just for 1 or 2 nights at the end of our stay. Just be aware that where ever you are, they will have pre authorised your CC for the full stay. When you check out early it will take a few days for that pre auth to be changed to the actual bill, and when you go to the DLH they will pre auth a stay too. In fact because we were going to check in the next day, they charged us for the first night, and pre auth the remaining days. My CC was kind of racked for a few days!

Thanks guys I may just try this. I will keep my current reservations and think on it :)
