Hi, I have read that we can get a taxi to a Walgreens close by for around $5 each way. I was wondering if at wherever Walgreens is located is there any fast food that we would be able to get for lunch?

Thanks a lot,

AJ ;)

Hi there!

Walgreens is a pharmacy. In addition to the actual pharmacy, every store carries a variety of necessities - health and beauty supplies, toiletries, basic groceries, etc...

This particular Walgreens is located at the intersection of Universal Boulevard and International Drive. Last time I was there, there was a Dairy Queen about a block or two away. I'm sure there are other fast-food options on International Drive as well - it's a busy, tourist-heavy area.

Maybe thats not the best place for us to go then as we want to get drinks and snacks for our hotel room. Is there a grocery store close by that won't cost us too much in a cab?

Cheers for the reply :-)

They'll have cases of bottled water and soda, potato chips, granola bars, candy, etc... They likely won't have fresh produce (besides maybe bananas or something) but they'll have a decent selection of most other staples!

(My local Walgreens has two grocery aisles plus a refrigerator/freezer section... this one probably has at least that!)

As far as a grocery store... I don't know, sorry!

Walgreens will have basic snacks and drinks but they are usually more expensive than purchasing at a grocery store. There is a Publix right up the road in the Kirkman Oaks Shopping Center and yes...they sell alcohol.

Thanks heaps Metro.....we might just head there :) :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for your reply. It might be fine for us then :)

Do they sell alcohol?

The Walgreens at 5501 S Kirkman Rd (Kirkman & Vineland) is probably the closest if you're staying at Hard Rock or Portofino and they do have a full liquuor department according to the Walgreens website. You could even walk to this location from Hard Rock and Portofino (it is about a 1 mile walk), though I'd recommend the cab for safety.

While prices may be a bit higher than Publix, if you're just looking for beverages (adult & otherwise) and snacks, you'll do fine here. You can sign up for their Balance Rewards program to save money.

In addition, there are plenty of casual restaurants here where you can get lunch - Alehouse is almost right next door and they have daily lunch specials that are going to be better than any fast food place, plus drink specials and a good selection of draft beers if you are a beer drinker. There is also a TGI Fridays at 5901 S Kirkman (just down Kirkman about 1/2 a mile) which has inexpensive HH specials on appetizers and drinks and an IHOP at 5203 S Kirkman (1/2 mile down Kirkman in the opposite direction) if you're craving breakfast foods.
