So I was at Wal-mart last night picking up my Site-to-Store order of Lost :thumbsup2 when I decided I wanted Enemim's new CD. DD said not to get it from there because they don't sell the unedited versions of CDs. I look and she was right. Not one copy of any explicit CD was not the "edited" version. I didn't get the CD because if I'm going to buy a CD I want it in its intended form, profanity and all.

Anyone experience that or it is regional?

Walmart has been like this for years. Its every walmart, not just yours. ;)

I had no idea. I don't buy CDs often and I buy explicit lyrics ones even less.
I thought we were special.

I wonder why they have that policy and if they lose many sales because of it?

I doubt they lose sales because of a lot of kids buy CD's-or they used to anyway before IPods and if the versions were not edited they would have to card the kids. Keep in mind, too, that Walmart is headquartered in the south, highly Baptist areas, so it could be from those influences as well??

You can't buy un-edited CD's, but you can buy as many Grand Theft Auto games as you want. :confused3

From what I remember, it's always been like that at Wal-Mart

Hey now!!!! I'm offended.....I'm in the south and go to a baptist church. :snooty:

Joking about the offended part though.....lol :rotfl: so please don't throw any rocks.

I thought we had Tipper Gore to thank for the rating on the CD labels in the first place........at least thats what I remember her lobbying for when I was a young rebelious teenager. :rotfl2: Yes, there used to be a time when music was unrated.

Used to be a metal/hair band fan....especially loved Poison......had the original copy of the Open up and Say Aah cover that was later banned.

Yup, Walmart sells edited CD's but Target sells unedited. Just in case you wanted to go there instead of the music store at the mall.

And that is why we buy any CD we want at Target and not WalMart. I can choose what my kids do or don't listen to all on my own. I don't need WalMart to do it.

I can't think of who it is off the top of my head, but I know of at least one major group that you will not find at WalMart, as they refuse to do an edited version of their CD.

Just wanted to tell you Eminem's new CD is great! :thumbsup2 I'm definitely not in the usual demographics for his fan base and this is the first Eminem CD I have purchased, but it is great. There are several songs better than what you are hearing on the radio, Talking 2 Myself, Going Thru Changes and Seduction. Really there is only one song on the entire CD that I skip over. Enjoy!

yeah, you can't buy unedited CD's but you can buy Harlequin Romance novels there. I guess it's all in the delivery.

That's hard for me to believe, and I'll never know. I'll take your word for it. :)

Glad to hear the CD is worth it. I might just buy it through iTunes before hitting the track tonight.

I never noticed the lack of explicit CDs before. Guess I learnt (kidding) something today. :thumbsup2

Reason why I never buy cd's at walmart. They should offer both kinds if they want to do that but to each their own. And I definetely don't like it when artist do an exclusive with them. (or target for that matter)

It surprised me that so many artists WILL allow their work to be tampered with in this way.

I remember years ago, I purchased Enemim's second CD when it was released. I went to Wal-mart bought the copy found out later that it was the edited version. I dont listen to the music with my kids around, so I intended to buy the regular version, I'm a big girl, I can handle it. Come to find out, Wal-mart only sells edited versions. This is a main reason why I rarely buy actual CD's anymore, I mostly stick to iTunes. But if you are looking for CD's shop Amazon.com or go to Target.

Many artists "tamper with" their work themselves. There are lots of artists who create their own edited versions of their songs. It's really not a bad idea, because some of the radio edits that aren't done by the artist don't sound that great. This way the artist can increase their air time because they'll have a version that's radio-friendly, and they can control how it sounds. They also can increase their sales, since the fans who want the original version can buy that, and those who would prefer a "cleaner" version won't have to forego purchasing the song. It seems like a win-win situation to me, unless the artist feels that the profanity that would be edited out is a crucial part of the work. Fortunately, many don't seem to feel that way.

Jen--thanks for fining the link. I like Green Day--good to know they stick to their guns (or words).

I know it is really all about the money, but I still like to kid myself and think it is sometimes about the art:rolleyes:

We couldn't get over some of the edited out words (on the radio) when we wen't to Florida last December.:lmao: When we lived with it and heard it all the time we were used to it but it was really noticeable to us once we had been sued to hear the full versions of songs on the radio. Plenty of words that are not swear words where missing. I remember "muffin" being gone from Poker Face because the kids wondered eh on earth that was an issue-editing it out just served to highlight it.

Personally I do not care for abridged books or edited music (or Wal Mart for that matter:lmao:)--I am fine with others listening to it but it is not for me and I don't think anyone other than the artists should be allowed to do it actually. Not taht my opinion really matters;)

its not just CD's you cannot even buy unedited DVD's. hubby wanted the unedited version of a movie and walmart doesnt carry it.
