Last week I booked a 2BR @ SSR for Nov. 24 and 26th and went on waitlist for Nov. 25. I checked a couple times on dvc member website to see if I got the waitlist, which I didn't. So I called yesterday to check on availability at any of the other Disney DVC resorts for all 3 dates with no luck. I told the rep I was waitlisted for SSR and she says that oh boy the waitlisted day is available! and then booked me for it.

wth? no one called (it might be possible it just got matched) and it didn't get automatically booked. Do you have to specify explicitly to automatically book it???

I'm wondering if waitlists should be trusted??? I was suspicious already hearing different stories

First of all, glad to hear your waitlist came through. Congratulations!

MS no longer calls when waitlists come through. (That is a fairly recent change). You find out when you get the confirmation letter in the snail mail or when you check the members' website.

There have been many interesting waitlisting reports. FWIW, I think that the waitlist process works as it should.

I think as a waitlisted day becomes available, that day goes into a special "holding" file. I think MS works this file (makes the reservation for the member and initiates the confirmation letter) as they have time - sometimes it probably takes a few days to get to it. The days in the special "holding file" are not available to members who call, but the file can be checked by MS to see who a particular day is destined for. If it is you, the CM can go ahead and reserve it for you instead of waiting for the process to get to it. This is just my theory, but I think it explains why people say they get their waitlist when they call and it allows me to believe DVC is doing things correctly. :)
