waitlisting one night with remainder reserved as desired

Ok, bear with me here.
I've got nights 2-7 reserved as desired in an Aulani 1-BR ocean view. Night 1 is not available in any 1-BR category, so I have a 2BR OV reserved, and a waitlist request for night 1 in a 1-BR ocean view.

(a) If one of the other 1-BR categories becomes available, can I change the confirmed reservation from 2-BR to that 1-BR, and retain the position in the waitlist queue for the 1-BR OV?

(b) Would extending the waitlist to 7-days pre-arrival make sense in this case? We're definitely arriving on night #1 so there's no travel-scheduling down-side to a late wait-list. I presume if the waitlist cleared between 30 and 7 days, the point differential would be deposited back into the holding account?

a) Changing what you already have booked will not affect a waitlist.

b) Yes, 7 days would make sense and yes, if you were to get the room which would be less points then the difference would go back into your account as holding points if it was less than 30 days out.

Well, some luck today. Was able to change the first night to a studio (just opened up) and keep the waitlist for the 1BR, and then reallocate points so I can bank what remains in 2015 UY if the waitlist never clears.

So, that means I think it's risk free to extend waitlist to 7day pre arrival, and I've done that.

Great! I think that 1 bedrooms are the ones that are easiest to get through a wait list as they are more points but sleep same # of people as a studio. Good luck!
