Waitlisting additional days for existing reservation

So, simple question: I've booked a 7 day stay at the 7 month window, but I need 8 days. So, I checked the next day to see if the 8th day was available, and of course it isn't, so I need to waitlist it. Options are (a) waitlist the full 8 days and set it to cancel the existing 7 or (b) just waitlist the 1 additional day I need. I'm *guessing* that in order for (a) to fill, the full 8 days would have to be available (not including my existing 7), so that's a bad idea? Or is the system smart enough to see you are cancelling the first 7 in exchange, so will fill if just the last day becomes available? Assuming DVC's system isn't smart enough to do (a) (my guess), then that leaves (b). Ostensibly, the problems with (b) is it would leave you with two ressies, and you would have to check out and check back in and ask for the same room, etc -- not ideal. Or, is the system smart enough to link back to back ressies for the same resort/room type? According to MS, they can create a waitlist for just the 1 day and it will automatically extend the existing ressie, however I don't see the option to do that online, so is that something only MS can do, or is that how it works automatically? I looked at the resulting Waitlist they created, and it looks like a normal 1 day waitlist. So, could I have just as easily created a 1 day waitlist myself (other than the fact the 8th day was at 7 mos + 7 days so I wouldn't have been able to create a waitlist that far out online), and if I had would it also automatically extend the existing reservation? In other words, is there some sort of automatic functionality that extends an existing reservation when a waitlist fills if it is for the same resort/room type and adjacent to the waitlist? Thanks!

If you already have the first 7, then just wait list the 8th. Once it fills, then call MS and ask them to combine them into one reservation--they may even do that eventually on their own--they did it for me last year.

Its much easier to get that 8th night on its own. If you set it up for all 8, it won't consider that you already have the first 7, it would only fill if all 8 nights became available again.

Thanks, that is what I figured (that it wouldn't consider you already have the first 7). Sounds like there must be a semi-automated manual process for MS to update your ressie if they created the WL, and if you create the WL yourself you just have to call. Thanks!
