Waitlist within 30 days?

I currently have OKW booked and Poly waitlisted, which is set to end if it doesn’t come through 31 days before our trip. If I set up the waitlist again, this time to within 7 days, what happens if the waitlist comes through? I understand if you cancel under 30 days your points go into a holding account. But what if you’re modifying the reservation, not canceling? I assume the points being used for the OKW booking would just be moved to the Poly booking with no penalty?

I had a waitlist come through about 15 days before a trip. A difference might be that it was for Boardwalk from OLd Key West and the points were exactly the same.

Normal rule is that if waitlist comes through during holding period and you have set it up so that the new reservation is supposed to replace the old reservation, the points from the old reservation are used for the new one. If the points in the old reservation exceed the amount needed for the new one, any excess points go into holding. If the points for the new reservation are more than the total in the old reservation, any extras needed come from your member account.

Currently the holding rule has been waived as one of the Covid modifications. However, DVC has provided no end date and no assurances it will continue, meaning it could be ended at any time.

I just recently had a wait-list come thru that replaced a BWV P/G view with a BWV standard view. I had the wait-list set to expire 7 days before arriving because of the current exception of holding points, normally I would have had it expire at 31 days because the wait listed room was for less points and I would not have wanted the extra points to go into holding. When they adjusted my reservation to reflect the new room they put the extra points back into my account without the holding restriction (since the reservation was only 3 weeks out).

If the waitlist is still currently active, you can change the expiration to 7 days without setting up a new one.
