Waitlist with One Time Use Points

Our trip in a few weeks can actually start a day earlier than expected, which is great. We’ve booked a nice hotel near Disney Springs for the first night (before we start our actual reservation on Saturday (17 Dec) at home resort. If possible, I’d love to purchase one-time use points (up to 24 pts) and get a room for a single night (16 Dec). I’d be happy at almost any DVC resort, but there is nothing available Per the website (anywhere). I don’t want to put in waitlist requests unless I can purchase one time use points for that single night. Just looking for recommendations. If I waitlist and it gets approved, will it automatically take points from next year or will I have the option to use one time use year points? And what’s the likelihood of a waitlist for one night getting filled 19 days out?

Thanks!

You have to have OTU points in your account and purchased in order ti use them for a waitlist.

So, you’d have to buy them for a real night and then cancel so they are there in case it comes through.

But, if it doesn’t, you will have bought them and have ti use by the end of the UY of this trip.

Because you are less than 31 days in, you can’t even swap them into what you have if it didn’t come through.

Sorry to hijack this post...but it kind of fits a topic of discussion I was going to start/ask about.

We just got invited to a wedding in San Diego in July. DW and I started thinking, why don't we just make it a week long trip to Cali and start at Disneyland. Since we weren't planning this, we are a few points short to take a stab at quickest trigger finger roulette for VGC, which currently has dates available for the 2-bedroom category we are looking for. I know there is zero chance that room will still be open when Member services opens that day for us to call in and buy OTU points specifically for that reservation. So my question is, can I call today and make a dummy reservation at OKW for the exact points I need. Cancel that reservation and then be able to use those points at 8AM on my 7-month window opening for the dice roll on VGC...or would I need to call in still to have member services book with my already purchased OTU points.

You sure can! Just make sure that the day you choose is in the same UY as the trip and is at least 31 days out from now so when you cancel you don’t end up with holding points!

We do this all the time. Just as others said. Buy the points for a reservation within the same UY and points you need- then cancel. Just remember that you won’t see those points as available points in your account. But if you try and book something- when you get to that screen where you choose which points to use for the reservation, you will see them there. The first time I tried this I was panicked when I cancelled the reservation and didn’t see those OTU points. But sure enough, tried to book a dummy reservation like someone here told me and sure enough, when I got to that screen where you choose which points to use- they were there.

Thank you guys for your help. I followed Sandi’s advice and was able to secure a 2-bedroom at Grand Californian for 3 nights. Felt like I hit the lottery!
