Waitlist - thought I understood, but now I'm doubting myself. . .

Newbie here. Thought I'd read up enough on waitlisting and was confident that I was doing things "right." Now I'm doubting myself and can't find the thread that I based my decision on. Here's the situation:

I am currently booked at BWV for Dec. 26, one night, studio for 29 points. I am also booked at BWV for Dec. 27-Jan 2 in a 2 BR. I have 3 points left for 2014, December use year.

We bought at AKV-K. I'd like the kids to see Kidani; they probably won't return with us for several years (college age, doing their own things these days). So I waitlisted a 1BR for the night of Dec 26, at 44 points. Authorized automatic borrowing of points.

If we get the waitlist, will they automatically cancel the studio at BWV and apply those 29 points to the 1BR at AKV? Meaning I'd only have to borrow 12 points (44-29-3)?

Or would they borrow 41 points (44-3)? If this is the case, what happens to the 29 points when I cancel that reservation?

We don't plan on returning to WDW within the next few years (are saving points for a 2017 cruise), so I really need to make sure I'm not locking up 2014 points in a way that we really won't be able to use them.

No - DVC will not automatically cancel the BWV studio.

Whenever you set up a waitlist there is an option where you are asked if the waitlist comes through is there a reservation you want cancelled. Click on the "yes" button and it will provide you with the fields where you enter the BWV studio and date. By doing this, your points will be allocated appropriately, i.e. will not borrow the entire 43 from the next use year.

Thanks for the info - it's jiggling my memory. I *think* I set it up to cancel the BWV. But I'm going to contact MS to make sure.

Don't just sit back and wait for the waitlist to fill. Check the website daily. Many times cancellations go back on the website before waitlists are filled.
