I am almost an owner and I feel like I'm on the starting blocks waiting for the gun. I have a bunch of things, trips, and transactions I want to do pretty much the day I'm in the system. I think I have a pretty good handle on everything except for waitlists. Searching through the posts I came up with the following.

One thing I don't get is exactly what happens when a wailist comes through. Sounds like whatever reservation you already have for those day(s) are replaced automatically, if you have one. Do you specify to MS which reservation it is supposed to replace?

Lets say I want BLT studio for a week, the first two days of the trip are unavailable in any view but available in all views for the rest. I would rather have standard view and save the points but I know it's not likely the standard will free up. I would also rather not have to switch rooms. So I think the best thing to do would be book BCV for the first two nights and BLT standard for the rest of the week and waitlist BLT std for the first two nights and BLT Lake view for the entire week. Does that make sense?

I read another post that basically said if the BLT lake view week comes available first then my waitlist for BLT standard would be cancelled. Would the booked BCV and BLT reservation also be cancelled? I don't think I'd have the points to cover it if it wasn't...

And here is the rest

1) Only two active waitlists at once
- I assume that this means if you happen to have two different UYs you could have two waitlists for each member#

2) Can have two different waitlists at the same resort for different dates and/or catagories.

3) Waitlists are active until 7 days out

4) Note that any waitlist filled less than 31 days out that is worth less points then something else you may already have booked would result in the difference being designated holding points
- makes sense

5) No phone call or email when your waitlist has been filled, a letter is sent snail mail. Member website will however show the new reservation

6) The only reason to call periodically when you are on a waitlist is if you want to check to see if ANY of the days you have waitlisted come up since the waitlist will only fill when all the days are available. You can call, book any available nights, and change the waitlist for the remaining.
- Seems some people like to call just to check on the status

I miss anything

All waitlists are cancelled at 7 days out.

2 waitlists means 2 of anything - so same resort, different resort, different view in the same resort, different size villa in the same resort - every one is 1 waitlist.

And two total for your membership, not per trip. So, if you have an August and December trip booked, you can't have 2 wait lists for the December trip AND two wait lists for the August trip.

Thanx for the replies, two down, two to go :thumbsup2

But where are my waitlist GURUs, bestow upon me your infinite knowledge :worship:

If this is what you're asking, yes if your waitlist came through, then existing reservations would be cancelled.

Thanx Vicki thats one part

But I'm really looking for the specifics.

Do I tell MS what reservations the waitlist replaces?

Or are existing reservations for those dates removed automatically?

Is the other waitlist automatically removed as well?

If these things do happen automatically what if I don't want the other waitlist or reservation removed?

Also I remember reading somewhere that waitlists are prioritized somehow, like if you are adding on to an existing trip. How does all that work?

We recently requested a waitlist for 10/8 and 10/9/10 at BWV for a studio garden view. We reservations for SSR for these dates. The WL just cancelled the SSR reservation and replaced our reservation with the BWV resevation.

Are you trying to do two separate WL for the same dates, or if number 1 happens then you want number 2? :confused3

My understanding and experience (on the reservation piece because I never had 2 WLs going at the same time) is that your existing reservation for the same dates is automatically cancelled. My gut instinct is that your other waitlist is also automatically cancelled when the first comes through.

I don't know anything about prioritizing or telling MS that you want one over another, or keeping one even if one comes through. I think you have to call back and start a new waitlist in that case.

No, if number 2 happens I still want the option of waiting on number 1. If number 1 comes in then I'm good. I feel like a little kid talking about the potty.

I want BLT studio for a week, but will have to waitlist the first two days, this would be number 1. However since there is a better chance of getting lake view I would also waitlist that, this would be number 2. If number two is filled first then my waitlist for number 1 is deleted which sucks because even if I waitlist it again I'd be at the bottom of the list now.

There has to be more to it, I hope, when it comes to automated cancelling of reservations. What if I had a waitlist for myself and an actual reservation for someone else, say a rental, that I didn't want deleted.

Thanx for the responses, keep em coming!!

If #2 comes through, then the original reservation and waitlist #1 is canceled. You would have to call to get back on the waitlist for #1 and yes, you would go to the bottom.

In that case, if you had two reservations (one for you and one for someone else), the waitlist would be tied to one or the other of them. Only the one associated with the waitlist would be canceled if the waitlist worked. It's all in how the waitlist is set up.

There are some limitations as to how you can waitlist, so it's pretty tough to have your cake and eat it too.

Yes, if you have two WL's and then one comes through, either one, the other WL will be cancelled because your WL was fulfiled. Your only option is to call back and ask to be put on that other WL if you want back on it.

And, they don't delete reservations. When you wait list, you tell them what reservation you are wait listing.

So, say you are booked in August, and you also have a Dec reservaiton book. When you put in the wait list for the August nights, they would only apply it to those nights.

Even if you had two reservations, both booked for the same dates in August, you would tell them what reservation to wait list. It would attach to that one and that one only. If you wanted both reservaitons to have a wait list, you would have to tell them that.

They only change a reservation if you have asked them to via the wait list.

Hope this helps.
