Waitlist Questions?

Can anyone help me out with the Waitlist system for reservations?
We have a reservation for 12 nights in a 1 bed at SSR our home resort.
Our first choice would have been a 1 bed savannah view at AKV Kidani village but were told they were none available.
If I wanted to put the request for 1 bed AKV Kidani in what is the procedure and what happens to my exisiting reservation?
