Waitlist Question

I have a reservation at our home resort and I plan on putting it a waitlist for another resort at the 7 month window.

The reservation at the other resort would take 3 more points than I have available (including borrowing points). I’m ok with transferring from another contract or buying 3 one time use points.

How does that all work? Do I just need to call MS to tell them what I want to happen if the Waitlist comes through?

When you set up the waitlist it will ask (as I recall) if you want to borrow points to fulfill it (should it come through). If you have multiple contracts, you can select the one you want to use.

Thanks.

On the contract I want to use, I will be 3 points short taking into account all possible borrowing and banking. So, I’ll need to get 3 points external from the contract (that can be via transfer from another contract or buying one time use points). But I don’t want to transfer those points or buy the one time use points unless the waitlist comes through.

Okay, I understand now. This situation I do not know. Maybe someone who has done this will chime in with a reply. I would just MS and ask. They will share exactly how it may be done in this scenario.

In order for a waitlist to fill, and you have to have the points there. They will not fill it if you need to transfer in or buy OTU points unless they are there for the filling of the waitlist.

So, if you don't want to do it before hand, then you can't waitlist, but stalk and call when you see it open up.

What you could do is purchase those three points now. You'd have to make a new reservation, so you'll need enough points to do that; and then you'd cancel the reservation and have the three OTU points sitting in your account and available.

Another way you can do this is to book a dummy reservation that takes 3 extra points, buy the OTU points.

Call MS and ask them to cancel the dummy reservation and move the OTU points into the reservation you plan to keep (or modify). When the waitlist fills, they can do it without a problem. If it doesn't fill, then you bought 3 points you didn't need.

If you call MS, they will do this for you, including booking the dummy reservation -- unless you used all your current year points.

Call them, MS will have a solution for this.

Thanks.

If this is a contract you own, you simply note that when you request the waitlist.

For example, you have a current booking at Resort 1 that uses 75 points. Resort 1 is using points from that resort contract and has zero left over from that use year, or the next one (so none you can borrow)
At 7m you waitlist a different booking at Resort 2 that uses 78 points. The extra 3 points need to pull from a different resorts contract. All you do at booking is state which one it should pull from, assuming all contracts are in your name and in your account. That is the easy part. If you have multiple other contracts you can select the order in which the extra points are pulled. MS can walk you through it over the phone.
Unfortunately, the buying part can only be done at booking. So if you don't have the extra 3 to borrow from any account in your name (it's not really a transfer at 7m unless it is from another member) then there is nothing you can do. You cannot set up a waitlist to charge you for 3 1 time use points if a WL comes through.

I just grabbed my waitlisted thursday myself. The waitlist did not get it. But it showed up at noon time.

Did you cancel your waitlist and go back to see if another room showed up? That has happened to me a lot with one night Waitlists.

Grabbed a second choice resort, canceled the waitlist, and immediately went back and the room was there…meaning the waitlist had matched but just not yet been processed yet.

Regardless, I am glad you got your room!

I looked after I booked and the room was then gone. I then did cancel the waitlist.

This afternoon nothing was open for a Saturday…. But Thursday became available at that resort again which is what I picked up at noon.

I just canceled a waitlist after posting and sure enough, it must have been matched because it wasn’t there and it was as soon as I canceled…so I grabbed it…of course, the other room I am waiting on is still not matched but at least its Nice we have both options!
