Waitlist Question

When waitlisting, there is the option to replace a reservation if the waitlist comes through. Is it possible to replace certain nights on a reservation without cancelling the entire reservation? I have 3 nights booked at AKV and if at 7 months out, the 2nd night is available at a non-home resort, should I book it? I'll have just enough points to do one night. Then if I do two waitlists for the 1st night and the 3rd night, can I designate that if the 3rd night comes through, just the last two nights of the AKV reservation be cancelled (thus giving me the last two nights at the non-home resort), or must the entire reservation be cancelled? I don't have enough points if the waitlist comes through without cancelling something. Even if this is possible, the problem will be if the 1st night comes through before the 3rd. I wouldn't want to book the 1st night unless the 3rd night is also available.

No. It's all or nothing when it comes to replacing an existing reservation with a waitlist request. That's why it is better to break a reservation up during the 11-month booking if you anticipate making a change at 7 months.

To set it up online, it is an all or nothing, But. you can set it up with MS and have them note what you want to do in terms of partial replacement,

Once a waitlist matches, a CM has to process it and MS is the only one who can put in a detailed note that you want a partial change,

If you know for sure you want to try split stays, then it is always good to book it that way at 11 months so you can utilize the online system more effectively.

Thank you for the information. Yes, I have it booked as two reservations. The first reservation is 4 nights, and the second reservation is 3 nights, both in an AKV value studio. The plan is to change to BRV for the second part of the trip. What I'm finding though is that it's going to be hard to get 3 nights at the same time, which made me think I might can book individual nights as they pop up. I just don't have extra points to work with. (And it was impossible to break the AKV value into separate nights. It was all I could do to get two separate reservations to begin with.)

If you don’t adjust the current waitlist then it won’t fill until both nights show up. If you said not to borrow they will indeed pass you up. I would cancel the one you have for two nights and change to the 1 night you need. Have it still replace the two nights you have. Then if it fills, you will have two reservations which MS can then easily combine for you by either chat, a call, or an email.

But, CMa won’t make any changes to what you set up simply because they see you have one of the nights because they have no idea why it’s there now.

Nope..well I have always been told they can not. The good news is that one nights are easier to fill so you may be even farther up the line anyway!

You can set up 2 waitlists per UY. Each one is specific so if you want a resort with different views, you have to pick.

For example , if you wanted BLT, you’d only be able to waitlist two of the three views.

Correct! You can do partial waitlists too. Basically, you can waitlist whatever you want. You can set it to replace something or just something new.

There's no way to tell how long a wait list is or where you stand in it by looking online. Member Services might be able to tell, but I've never waited on hold just to find out. If everyone ahead of you has a waitlist for 7 nights and you waitlist for one, guess whose wish gets granted when only 3 nights open up? It won't be the people standing in front of you. So knowing how many members are in front of you in line is of little consequence.

Well I am definitely NOT a risk-taker. No way am I cancelling an AKV value studio without having other accommodations. I may give MS a call after I see what is available at the 7-month mark.

I hope the 1 night is easy to fill. Its the Sunday of Labor Day weekend though. Worst case, I either fall back to my Boardwalk reservation and have extra points for next February.

I‘m almost wishing I hadn’t let go of the 1br value I had, but I’m just not ready to be that far away from all the parks.

You can not and to be honest, your place in line may not mean as much as you think,

For example, if the first 10 people are waitlisted for say 3 nights, but person 11 is only waitlisted for 2, and 2 nights is what gets canceled, person 11 gets them,

They do not hold for persons 1 to 10 as waitlists need to be an exact match. For me, I think of them as multiple lists with people going on based on the exact same request.

Yeah, so, it is important to know what you could live with. That’s why I said I am more of a “risk taker.” I would be fine staying at Saratoga if it didn’t work out. But if you would be upset if it didn’t work out, you probably should just hold for the full replacement reservation instead of letting go of the value studio to piece your preferred resort together over time day by day.
