Waitlist Question

hi- wondering if anyone can help me understand or point me to an existing thread... does the waitlist have to line up with the days you are replacing? For example, I have a 4 night reservation can I create a 2 night waitlist for just say the last two days for a different resort? Will it split my original res and replace with 2 nights at old resort and 2 nights at new resort? And what if the new 2 days cost more than the original and I only have enough extra points to cover the difference- will it apply the points from the original room and use my extra points? Thank you!

You'd probably have to call on that one. I know you can have a split reservation and sit on the waitlist to have the whole stay at one or the other, but I've never heard of anyone waitlisting to stay partially at another resort. Keep us posted though!

I have done a waitlist like that before.
Don't try to do it yourself online because the only option is to cancel the whole stay that you are replacing. Call in to member services & ask them to start a waitlist for you. Explain carefully what you want - a split stay and have them write it into the notes that the person finalizing the match will see. Have them read it back to you.
If you have time before needing to book fastpasses you could also ask them to change the names for one half of the trip so it is less likely to be accidentally canceled and that way you can modify the reservation online yourself after hours if you happen to catch the dates you want yourself.
Points wise you will be fine. Unlike when you call up to change a reservation (and they tell you there is a chance you will be homeless because they might lose both the new & the old) the person finalizing the match has the ability to apply the old points to the new reservation without dropping the room. (Or they just undo whatever creative accounting they do after) Why all member service agents don't have that ability - I have no idea.
