Waitlist Question

I need some advice on waitlisting. I have a 1-bedroom reservation for 5 nights in October. However, I would like to have a 2-bedroom for the same nights, but only 3 nights are available. Would I have a better chance of getting my 2-bedroom if I book the 3 nights, and keep the 1-bedroom for the other 2 nights, and hope for the waitlist to come through? Or should I just stay on the waitlist for all 5 nights? I really don't want to change rooms, but thought I would have a better chance of waitlisting for only 2 nights, as opposed to 5 nights. Has anyone had any luck doing this? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

The fewer the number of nights, the better your chances.
