Waitlist Question? Over New Years -- which resort is our best hope???

Waitlist options and hopes over New Years

  • Sorry -- you really have no chance of the waitlist coming thru

  • Book Pop the first 3 nights but your Jan 1st - 3rd will be OK

  • Are you crazy? Why are you even thinking of coming this time of year?

We want to stay on points 12/31 - 1/5/2014 -- we have a 2 bedroom the last two nights already booked at Saratoga but are waiting for the first 3 nights. Worst case we will stay at Pop Century and move but am really hoping to not have to do that for more than one night. At this late date and given the EXTREME crowds/demand at that time -- what is our best hope for our trip?

Sorry -- you really have no chance of the waitlist coming thru -- book at Pop the rest of the time? :(

Book Pop the first 3 nights but your Jan 1st - Jan 3rd waitlist will probably come through so just one night at Pop :worried:

Are you crazy? Why are you even thinking of coming this time of year? :scared1:

we've always gotten waitlist requests with the exception of the beach houses at VB (whatever they're called....).

BUT we usually put in many months ahead- so not sure what your odds are at this late time. maybe some others with experience would know.

good luck

I'd put in two waitlists for a 2 bedroom at SSR. The first for 12/31, which IMO is a very long shot at this point. Use the second waitlist for the next two nights, which has a better chance than 12/31/13.

Perhaps the 2 night will come through and you will only have to stay at POP on cash for NYE.

Good luck!

I am on a waitlist for a 2 BR at OKW and have been since I think July for NYE.

I check a couple of times a week to see if I see anything and I did see a treehouse villa pop up last week for NYE - it was showing up for several days when I checked.

The last time I spoke to member services I was told that people are cancelling closer and closer to that 30 day window. When I spoke to them, they were seeing a lot of wait lists coming thru for the Food and Wine festival - I believe it was late August when I last called.

Good Luck - if mine comes thru I will post.

My wishful thinking this past week had me checking every other day to see if anything changed even though I know it's going to be a last minute thing if at all. 30 days out would be fine too. I have two rooms booked Dec 31st - Jan 3rd booked on $$ at Port Orleans Riverside with the last two nights at Saratoga in a 2 Bedroom. Maybe if it gets that close I'll just book the last two nights at POR too and then keep the points if the waitlist doesn't come through. I don't want to spend the $$$ on the rooms but we have done split stays but not 3/2 nights. We'll see. Still hoping for an early surprise and those two nights come through quickly.

Keep me posted if your waitlist comes through.

The other option is it just do it one night at a time. For example, put in just the 2nd of January. If that comes in, then do January 1st. I have had really good luck doing it this way...not for New Years but other times as it's easier to fill one night than multiple.

Good luck!

Due to work date changes, I've been trying to get Nov 10 to 15. I got an AP discount studio for BWV and waitlisted the entire week at both BWV and BCV. When checking the online system late evening last Tuesday, I was able to get the last 3 nights, garden view. So I changed my waitlist to Nov 10 to 12 at BWV, either garden view or boardwalk view. I've been stalking the online system and have seen 1 night become available here and there, some at "hard to get" places - BLT standard view studio, AKV value studio. So I wouldn't just wait to see if the waitlist comes through, keep checking the online system to see if any of your nights come through individually.

Congrats for geting the last 3 nights so far. Hoping you get the other two nights too. I'm checking at least 2-3 times a day and running for Saratoga and Kidani -- just thinking those might be the two with the best chance of availability changing.

We did suck it up and bought the airfare this weekend -- our one preferred flight on SouthWest moved up on Saturday so I messed that one up -- didn't want to risk another increase so we just booked the air.

Does look like I probably won't have any movement though until the 30-45 day window then. Just have to be patience and optimistic.

I was thinking about this approach but wasn't sure if made any difference. I am wait-listed for 12/31, 1/1 and 1/2 -- I don't want the 12/31 day to come through if the 1st/2nd won't -- but I would love to have it work backwards....if the 1/2/14 night comes thru then I cancel that night at POR and save the $$.

If I can have two wait lists active -- maybe I should can't the one for 1/1 - 1/5 at AKV Jambo (probably NO chance that is coming through) and then make two wait-list?

One for the 3 nigths 12/31 - 1/3 and the other wait list just for the night of 1/2? Then if that one comes through open up another wait list for the night of 1/1?

Yep - I'd cancel Jambo and "spend" my waitlists on a single night for 1/2/14 at Saratoga and one for 12/31-1/2/14 (all 3 nights) at Saratoga. That way if something opens up for all the nights you would prefer you would be in line for it or you can try to work your way backwards. Then if 1/2 comes thru set up for 1/1 etc. Either way you won't end up with multiple moves.

Just saw a 2 BR at SSR available for 12/31. It's 1:38 am EST , 10/10/13.;)

I sort of did this today. I gave up for now on the Jambo house dream. I started walking backwards toward out arrival date (12/31) and added the Jan 2nd night waitlist. But my other wait-list is for 1/1 - 1/3 since we decided later that we'd come on NYE since the airfare was actually cheaper. The DVC member services rep sort of talked me out of changing my other waitlist since she said we would have to cancel that wait-list and re-do one for 12/31 - 1/3 and I'd go back to the bottom of the list.

So I'll wait to see if the 1/2 night comes through, then I'll add a wait-list for 1/1 night then see if at the last minute I can get 12/31. Hoping to not have to change resorts at all but even if it's one night at POR (which I love) then the rest at Saratoga to save the $$ -- would be nice.

Thanks for the confirmation.

Well -- with a little bit of change on our part we are set now from 12/31 thru 1/5 -- all in the same resort and all on points.

Just happened to check online around 3pm yesterday and suddenly 2 bedrooms were showing up for New Year's eve no less and 2 of the other days - but at Kidani Villas. I called and by they time I spoke to a cast member (about 15 mins) they were gone but 2 savannah view studios were available for the entire stay -- so I grabbed them. No need to change resorts, no POR on cash for a few nights and our 2nd choice in resorts (Jambo house is our first choice).

Will still wait list for Jambo house but now just need to decide if we want to try to get a 2 bedroom for the entire time or maybe just stay with the 2 studios and save the points. Or do nothing.

At least we're covered on points in the same resort for the entire length of stay which is great.

Thanks
