Waitlist question for possible DVC purchase

We are looking into buying a 100 pt contract into DVC through resale. It is just me and DW. We are planning to use our DVC pts every other year for a two bedroom villa for us and our mothers' vacation. We plan on using our points in the middle of October or the second week of December. If we bought into BWV and booked our vacation there at 11 months out could we call back at 7 monthe to check avalibilty at say VWL and if there was no availability there could we go onto a waitlist even though all of our points were already taken up at the BWV. If something opened up at VWL could the points we were using for our BWV reservation be then used for the VWL reservation?

This is one of probably other questions we will have.

Yes, you can do that - but you may find the waitlist limiting when used in that fashion since you would not get your reservation unless the entire thing became available at once. MS won't save dates as they become available - even if you are at the top of the list. If you use the automatic-daily waitlist, you will get each day as it becomes available - but in your case that would mean the possibility that you could have to move in the middle of your stay.

I would not base any purchase decision on the waitlist. While it does work well, it should not be the basis for a purchase. Just buy where you want to stay if that is an issue and reserve at 11 months. If you want to stay at VWL - buy there. If you won't be disappointed in a stay at BWV, then your plan will be fine as is.
