Hi All,

Waiting patiently for a BLT one BR to give us more space than the current BLT studio we have booked. MS keeps offering a cash room when I call, but we want to use our points. I have heard that cash rooms can be turned over to DVC if they are not booked...Does anyone know how this works and typically when a cash room magically becomes a DVC room? What are the chances of this happening for late August for 3 nights?

I know nobody really knows....Just wondering and speculating.

My understanding has always been that there are two pots of rooms -- those that belong to CRO and those that belong to DVC. There are lots of ways CRO can get a room. In a sold out resort, it's a bit less frequent than in a resort like DVC that is still selling, since not all of the resort has yet been declared over to DVC. My understanding was that when MS books you a cash room, it is just doing it for CRO and giving you a DVC discount (and allowing linkage to a points ressie) on a room in the CRO pot.

To get DVC more inventory, I think you need either a cancellation or for Disney to declare more units over to DVC. This actually gives you a decent chance at BLT since it's not sold out yet, so there may be more declarations before your travel dates.

I may have some or all of this wrong, but it's my general understanding. I'm sure one of the folks here who know lots about inventory will correct me.

Thank you for your response.

If MS is saying that BLT/DVC resservations are 100% sold out for August 24-27, that does not mean BLT is at 100% capacity? Is that right?

I was under the impression that every single room at BLT was booked, but if all inventory has not been declared they are actually leaving rooms open and denying DVC members use of those rooms? It doesn't make much sense to me?

Does anyone know what percentage of rooms at DVC are reserved for CRO reservations?

Has anyone got a WL filled there three weeks prior to the WL date? (or less)

Thanks again for your help!:goodvibes

Look at it this way. Say a developers builds 100 houses in a subdivision, and offers those houses for sale. 50 houses are sold, and 50 are stil owned by the developer as sales have been slow. Should the developer let people move into the houses they still own, even if those people have paid nothing for those houses?

DVC works much the same way. If a resort has 100 rooms, and 50 of those rooms have points sold to DVC members, and the other 50 do not, should Disney simply allow DVC owners to use them? Only instead of using the physical rooms, DVC/Disney uses a percentage of the total room available.

It would be like your expecting your next door neighbor, if they owned a vacation home next door, to allow your guests to stay at their house for free.

So while all the DVC rooms may be taken at BLT, the cash percentage of rooms may still have some availability. If DVC sells all the points in the rooms that are currently declared into DVC, then they will declare more, and those rooms will become available to DVCers, and fewer rooms are available for cash.

My guide told me Disney retains 2% of the resorts points.

I also have a waitlist for BLT 1 BR in Sept. The last time I called MS to check on the waitlist I was basically told by the CM...I should just plan on enjoying my vacation at BWV because there is pretty much no chance that I was getting BLT at this point. I hope you have better luck than me, but at this point I'm just going to try to get excited about BWV.

We already have a room at BLT booked but are trying to get a 1 BR instead of a studio. ( Have you seen photos of the size of the studio?)

I wouldn't count BLT out.....you never know what can happen. Last summer our BCV came through 10 days prior.

If you do wind up at BWV, you will love it! It is a fantastic resort with so much to do. The only concern I ever have with WL coming through are dining plans and changing them last minute to reflect our new location.

Hope your WL comes through!

Thanks, Chuck:goodvibes

Nice explanation....Are you a teacher?
No, I've just been a DVC owner for along time.

My guide told me Disney retains 2% of the resorts points.

Yes, Disney retains some ownership in all the resorts. But, in resorts that are not fully sold, like AKV, SSR and BLT, all of those unsold points also are technically owned by Disney to use as they wish. As well as points in older resorts that they reacquired either through default or ROFR.

Thanks for your veteran advice;)

Do you think that I am wishing upon a star that DVC will release some rooms to WL for late August? Or would they have done that already?

The only way to get a room at VWL for late August this year would be for another member to cancel their reservation. And you'd have to be first name on the waitlist for the best match of the cancelled dates. It's possible, but unlikely.

Some people do have family emergencies come up where they have to cancel this late.

I think the chance of any wailtlist coming through is pretty slim, but not impossible. You may try calling MS every couple of days, too. Sometimes the WL system doesn't always grab the rooms before they go back into inventory.

I ment 2% of the sold out resorts. SSR for example might have 10-15% right now until it is sold out. I know you can just look on the Tax Roll and get the info.
