So I called member services YESTERDAY to switch from a standard view to a boardwalk/preferred view at the BWV'S and today it came through! This is from 7/2-7/5/09. My question is this. On the DVC member website under my vacation it says...studio garden/pool view. Is this correct? Is there a chance I won't have a Boardwalk view? Also, can anyone tell me what to request? Thanks!:goodvibes

It sounds like you have a preferred view rather than a boardwalk view. They take the same number of points but I think your reservation would say boardwalk view if that is what you got. If you really want boardwalk you will probably have to waitlist again and be very specific that is what you are waitlisting for. Good luck and pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

At present you will not have a BW view and likely would have been better off staying in a standard view and saving the points. I'd call back and WL for a BW view though you will likely not get it. It sounds like you don't understand the views, there are 3 at BWV. They are SV, BW view and all else. The preferred can be the canal, pool or similar but can be no better than the standard view in many rooms.

I was aware of the 3 different views and I specifically asked for a Boardwalk view. I am guessing that asking for a Boardwalk view is just a request and not a guarantee because they are both in the same point category? If we decide to keep the reservation as is, what do you suggest we request? Thanks!

You need to call them back. A Boardwalk View is guaranteed on the confirmation (at least it was on our last stay). It looks like they have you in a preferred view. That could be just about anything and not worth the extra points in my opinion.

They are specific room types. You can't ask for a boardwalk view and they give you something else. It is guaranteed if that's what you book. It's almost like sayiing I asked for a 2BR and they gave me a 1BR. There's no request....different types. You said preferred or boardwalk and you got Preferred. I'd recommend trying to get your standard back (which is hard to get) and waitlisting for Boardwalk view

100% chance you will not get a BW view if you are booked in a preferred view category.
As stated by others, there are 3 booking categories at BW: std view, preferred view and BW view. BW view is a separate guaranteed booking category and it will be on your ressie.

You can call back to member services and see if BW view is available and book it. If not, see if std view is still available and change back to STD view and WL BW view. If neither are available, you could WL both. At least with STD view, you can save a few points.

In your very first post, you called it boardwalk/preferred view. I see that you said you understand that there are 3 different views as the others posted and that boardwalk and preferred are 2 different things.

But when you called to switch, if you said "boardwalk/preferred" when checking for availability, chances are MS thought either would be okay with you - there probably weren't any BW views available, is my guess (especially over 4th of July).

There is a thread on the boards about people who have a guaranteed boardwalk view reservation being moved to a Preferred/pool and garden view for dates around July 4th due to rehab work. Someone reported that MS said some guests were being moved to other resorts. I would be very careful about what you ask MS to do to be sure you don't lose your BWV reservation to someone on the waiting list trying to get back in to the BWV after being moved to another resort.

The names chosen for these views can be confusing. They are called something like "Preferred/Boardwalk View", "Preferred/Pool and Garden View" and "Standard View". But when we talk about them (and MS does this as well) we tend to abbreviate them as "Boardwalk View" (or "Guaranteed Boardwalk View"), "Preferred View" and "Standard View".

So I think when you asked MS for Preferred/Boardwalk View they may have interpreted that as "either a Preferred/Pool and Garden View or a Guaranteed Boardwalk View". Asking for a Boardwalk View is not just a request, it is a booking category. You know at the time of booking that you either have a guaranteed boardwalk view or you don't. Except of course for this 4th of July period when those with guaranteed boardwalk view reservations are being moved to other rooms due to rehab work.

Next time, if you want a boardwalk view ask for a "boardwalk view" or a "guaranteed boardwalk view" and leave out the word "preferred" so there is no ambiguity.

It's also possible that you were waitlisted correctly and that as they started moving people from boardwalk view rooms to preferred view rooms, your WL triggered and you got a BW view room for a brief period and then joined the group of those being moved to preferred view rooms.

Hi, OP here. I just got off the phone with MS. I did as some suggested and ask to be put back into a standard view....low and behold NONE were available. BUT she did say that a Boardwalk view was available. I was able to cancel my preferred view and obtain a boardwalk view in a studio for 7/2-7/5. Now you all have me concerned that I am going to be moved out of the BWV all together?:confused3

I would not call them and ask as it will not help you and might actually increase your chances of being moved. IF they move you I think you can argue to get the points back between BW view and SV since that's what you had originally and were obviously willing to accept. IF that were to happen, I'd take the stance that I wanted the difference in points refunded and point out that I had a SV until they erroneously canceled that and put you incorrectly in a preferred view.
