Waitlist - call or automatic

I decided to add a few days to my August BC resv and was put on a waitlist.
Do most members choose to have the room automatically booked when it becomes available or do they choose to take the notification call from Members Services?

Has experience shown that either method is more or less likely to be sucessful?

I did (or rather DH) did the automatic for switching our early May trip. Came through in about a month. I just checked the member website everyday and one day ta-da there it was. We did the waitlist all or nothing for VWL or BCV for a 2br from SSR.

I have always gone the "automatic" route and it's worked. Today I went on a waitlist that will cost a few more points than what I have booked. I told the CM where to take the points from if the WL comes through.

I'm not sure this WL will come through, it's for BCV in June. We have SV BWV booked. The extra points that we just bought made me feel like I could splurge a few more points on the trip! We'll see.
