Waitlist and cancelling replacement reservation

I have a reservation for one night in August at the BWV. I have also waitlisted the same night at BCV and asked to replace the BWV reservation if it comes through. My question is - if I cancel the BWV reservation now, do I jeopardize my waitlist at all? Or will they just use my points balance to make the booking with no further action? TIA.

It should not make any difference. They will simply fill the waitlist if it comes through.
