Waiting in line... not riding

My son is going to WDW with his band. He wants to hang out with all of his friends, but does not want to ride the rollercoasters. Is it possible to wait in line and then not ride the ride?
*** Even though I never want him to give into peer pressure, I am kind of hoping he does and rides some rides!!!

I'm sure he will have fun, socializing is usually the best part of a trip anyways.

Heck, I even do this sometimes. I don't always want to ride on Everest or Space Mountain!
Same at Universal as well, just ask to exit.

I rarely go on Kali River Rapids (just because I don't want to walk around AK drenched) but I always go through the queue to check out the details and try to find something new. You can do that basically at any attraction.

I completely agree! I don’t want to walk around all sopping wet! It will be raining almost the whole time we are there anyway!

Agreed. Even if I was not riding the ride, Disney puts so much detail into the queues that it would be a shame to miss it. TOT and EE are another couple, right off the top of my head, that have great queues to immerse you in the scene. Heck, I like the queue at TOT better than the ride itself!

My wife rarely rides ToT, but will go through the pre-show and line and then exit before you get in line for the elevator. You see it on almost every ride near the end.

If you were really evil you could tell her there's a new chicken exit available after you get on, but before the elevator drop, "So now you can experience all the cool special effects before you exit."

She did ride it in the past, so she probably wouldn't buy that.

Anyone can wait in line and not ride, but just let him know that he can't enter a FP line without a FP

Morning all, I'm late to this thread but going with wife and 4 year old in May. Daughter won't be big enough for some rides like Space Mountain. If I want to ride myself, can she wait in line with my wife while I ride? Or is she not allowed in the line at all if not tall enough?

Kids that aren't tall enough to ride aren't allowed in the lines at all.

Are you familiar with rider swap? It will allow you and your wife to take turns riding the big attractions. You can combine with FP too. So get one FP for Space for you. Then ask for a rider swap for your wife. She will also get to use the FP queue later without using a FP on it. She could use her FP to book Splash, then you could get a rider swap for that.

Not familiar, I will definitely look into it, thanks! There's probably only be 1-2 we won't do as a family .
