We usually try to arrive about 30 minutes before rope drop. If I remember, about 10 minutes before there is a little show. The time went fast for us, it was fun and even when our kids were little, the time went fast.
We get a ps for the first available time at crystal palace before park opening at MK. This gets us in the park before everyone else and we get to enjoy a good buffet breakfast with Pooh and friends while the crowds are waiting in line. Works great for us.
The first park we are going to is Epcot. We live in CA and have been to Disneyland several times. DW is a first for us this year so we really want to see as much as we can of the other parks.
If you're waiting in line, its fun to talk about your 'gameplan' (if you have one), figure out times of shows, what you want to do. If you have a guide book look through it, finalize plans. Consider getting a "Hidden Mickey's Guide" or start looking for them outside the park. It's fun to take pictures, even if you aren't inside yet. However, if you can get inside the park early (sometimes, on strange occasions, they'll let people in early), it's a great opportunity to take family pictures or book last minute/walk up character dining reservations. Regardless, the time will pass quickly! Have a G R E A T trip!
We also get there about 30 min before rope drop. We discuss what we plan to do first and an attack plan for the early morning to make the most of the time while everyone else is still in bed. We somehow seem to make friends with those around us as well and spend the time trading tips/experiences with each other.
