We have a trip booked for Jan. 2012 for 7 nights at OKW. We have decided we would like to stay at BW with a BW view. I called MS and they had 6 of our nights but one in the middle wasn't available.

Can I book the BW stay and wait list the one day and still keep my OKW reservation?

Yes, IF you have enough points to cover both reservations. You may also have to put a traveling companion's name as the lead name on the BW reservation because the computer doesn't like having 2 reservations at the same time for the same person.

If you do not have enough points, one option would be to book the 6 nights and WL the one night in the middle while booking another room non-BW view as a last resort backup, under the "assumption" that that WL is VERY likely to come through for the one night. That's a very slow time for DVC, and you are only needing 1 night and you have almost 5 months.

Or checking if there is a cash discount for that one night to hold that same room, and then WL it; if it doesn't come through (unlikely) you would still be able to stay in that room but it will cost you cash.

Still mulling this over...

Thanks for the advice!:goodvibes

We don't have enough points without borrowing. I don't want all those points back in this year when I cancel one of the reservations. So.. That's out.

I know I'm talking crystal ball time, but do folks think we would end up getting the one night? I'm leaning towards that .. WL the one night.

Anymore opinions out there?

What night is missing? What size villa? If you're visit includes marathon weekend, I'd say the odds are probably not in your favor. Better odds if you want a 1 bedroom.

Are you a gambler? If so, book the missing night in Pool/Garden and waitlist for what you need. Worst case, you will be moving twice.

If the BW location is important, another option is to book Pool/Garden and waitlist for the whole stay in the BW view. No moves that way and you might get lucky. If not, you still have the great location and no moves.

I'm a strong advocate of the wait list.

We're 3 for 3 on our upcoming October trip. At 11 months we couldn't get the standard view studios we needed on one night. We booked preferred view for that one night and wait listed standard view. We got our wait list the next day for both studios.

In May, we decided to add a day on to the beginning of our trip. The only room available was at OKW. We again, wait listed for BWV standard view and that came through within the month. This allowed us to not have to switch resorts after one night (even if we still have to switch rooms).

In May, we also decided to wait list a 1BR at BLT in both standard view and lake view (after the BWV wait list came through). We already had a standard view studio, but due to an add-on had banked points we had to use. The wait list for standard view 1BR just came through on Friday (9/16).

I know some people have had issues with the wait list and others think that the rooms go to those who call before those on the wait list, but our luck for a trip during the peak DVC travel period has been very good. We're staying 10/15 - 10/25. 10/15 in a BWV studio, 10/16-10/22 in a BWV 2BR and 10/23-10/24 in a BLT 1BR. With multiple wait lists getting us what we wanted.

Good luck to you!

It's for a 1 bdrm and the night is Friday, Jan 28.

The idea of booking a pool view and then wait listing is a great one. They did have our dates for a pool view.

Another option that require one move at the most would be to book either the 1st part or last part in the boardwalk view and the other half in the pool garden view and then waitlist that half for the boardwalk view. Otherwise you might have to move twice if the waitlist doesn't fill.

Well, January 28, 2012 is a Saturday, but even so, I think the chances of you getting a 1 bedroom BW view for that night are quite good. Hope it comes through sooner rather than later. :)
