I have a question about using the wait-list.

If a resort has a variety of different 2 bedroom accommodation (parking view, garden view, pool view, etc), do you go on the wait-list for a 2 bedroom and what ever view becomes available you get, or do you have to pick the view as well?

If you do pick the view, can you wait-list for a couple of different views to cover all options?

thanks...

No, for each one that's a separate booking category, you have to chose a max of 2 at any one time. BCV has 3 different 2 BR types (no views), BWV has 3 different 2 BR due to views, AKV has what 7 or 8 different 2 BR units, BLT should be around the same. I'm not a fan of the WL implementation but it could be worse. You actually have to have additional points and commit those to the WL with Marriott though you can WL anything that's at or under your view/size choice as one WL which has advantages and disadvantages.

AKV has what 7 or 8 different 2 BR units
I think it is eight:

Jambo House/2BR Value
JH/2BR Standard View
JH/2BR Savanna View
JH/2BR Club Level

Kidani Village/2BR Lockoff, Standard View
KV/2BR Dedicated, Standard View
KV/2BR Lockoff, Savanna View
KV/2BR Dedicated, Savanna View

OP: You can have up to two active waitlists per Use Year. Waitlists are very specific. For example, to set up a waitlist for a 2BR at AKV you could pick two of the eight choices above, assuming you did not already have some other waitlist set up within the same Use Year. Unfortunately you cannot set up a waitlist like "any 2BR at AKV".

I understand OPs original question.

I sometimes wished I could just waitlist any view in a particular resort, in a certain sized room..... because many times, the view does not really matter to me. Then I could WL a 1BR, for example, in 3 different resorts, any view.

But that is not the way it works of course.

Yes you have to pick a catagory. My daughter is booked in Kidani studio standard, but has 2 waitlists (I believe you can only have 2 active waitlist at one time). One is a Jambo value studio and the other is a Jambo standard studio. As a note, she's only there 1 night and would prefer Jambo for the easy access to Mara's that evening. We leave for Vero the next day and she's coming in on an evening flight. Plus you have to keep in mind in regard to your points. One of her waitlist is for 7 days prior while the other is 31 days prior. One is the exact number of points and the other is less. I didn't want points going into holding if she got the value under the 31 day window.

To add, once you do have to put your choices, you can always use the online booking system to check regularly for the others.

At least that is better than when you used to have to call frequently. This is how I ended up changing up a trip last year--a combination of my wait list and getting a different view but in my room size by checking the website.

Eventually, I got the view I wanted too, but at least it gave me the ability to switch up a bit.

Of course, this options does require you to have additional points to cover it if you are going to book it---but I just called MS immediately and they were able to switch it out and keep my wait list intact for the other view.

If you would guess, would you assume (I know what assume stands for :rotfl2:) wait listing for the lower point (less desirable to some) views would be harder to get than the higher priced views?

I think the length of the stay you are waitlisting is probably more a factor in whether or not you get your waitlist. If you waitlist seven nights, the odds of all seven nights coming through is less than if one or two nights come through.

That's why people used to waitlist day by day. It was easy to get a day here or there than a full week.

The other factor would be the number of the villas you waitlist that would even be available at 11 months out. The fewer available from the start means the fewer available with the waitlist.

Yes, it is harder to get in the "lower" point views, often because there are not as many. I own at BWV and BLT to be able to book standard rooms as I am a member who likes to "stretch" my points and view is not important to me. I believe there is only 20% standard at BWV, while there is 60% pool/preferred view at BWV (with another 20% for boardwalk view). (I got my figures from posts on the boards here). When waitlisting you should try to the view or resort with the largest availability to increase your chances.

Very good point!

I am interested in Aulani... how would I find out how the "views" are distributed to, play the odds, as it were?

Thanks..
