Wait List Question

We are so excited. I just booked reservations this morning for Dec 22 - Dec 28 and will be calling tomorrow morning to book the night of the 29th (assuming it's available).

I was trying to decide where to stay (more availability than I expected). When I called, I could book all but 1 night in a dedicated 2 BR at VWL or a full week in a lock off at BCV. In hindsight, I should have nabbed the VWL reservation and waitlisted the 28th, but in my head, I was playing out how badly I'd hate to move to a lockoff for one night, and then back to a dedicated for the last night of my stay. So, I booked the 2 BR lock off at BCV and waitlisted a dedicated 2 BR at both VWL and BCV.

With that said, I have a couple of questions.
* Holding Points - Because my resale points aren't in my account yet , I had to borrow a few points from 2012 for the reservation. MS told me if the VWL wait list comes through, because the reservation takes less points than the BCV booking, those borrowed points would go into holding. I don't believe that is accurate. I questioned her on it, and she was that yes, they would go into holding.

I thought points only went into holding if you modified/canceled your reservation within the last 31 days before your trip? So if I call 32 days out and cancel the waitlist (assuming they haven't come through), those points will just be "normal" points within my 2011 UY that will have to be used by the end of my UY (because I borrowed them), correct?

* Since I will be waitlisting (okay, not holding my breath that it will come through since it's the week of Christmas), all 8 days would have to open up for me to get the reservation, correct? In other words, MS won't start piecing together days for me until all 8 days are covered. So next time around, it would have been smarter to have booked combo dedicated/lockoff and then waitlisted the 28th for a dedicated and the 8 days for a dedicated at BCV, right?

I've never really waitlisted before, but have read enough that I think the above is correct! ;) Thanks, guys!

You are correct, the borrowed points will go back to the UY that they were borrowed into.

You are correct. Holding points only happen when you cancel less than 31 days in advance. So, if stop the wait list prior to that time frame, then they will simply remain borrowed points to be used at the end of your UY.

And, waitlists will fill by the way you set it up. So, if you set it up for 8 days, it will only fill when all 8 days are available.

Good luck!

Thanks, everyone for the posts! I had to let you know what happened this morning...:woohoo:

Because we were booking 8 nights, I could only book 7 nights yesterday. When I called, they had all but the night of the 28th available in a dedicated, and even fewer nights for a lock-off. :confused3 As mentioned above, I booked a lockoff at BCV for all 7 nights and waitlisted a dedicated 2 bedroom at both BCV and VWL.

Since I had to call this morining to book the last night anyway, I thought...why not go ahead and check availability at VWL just to see if something changed between yesterday and today? Guess what? A 2 bedroom lockoff was available for nights 2-8, and for the first night, we were able to snag a 1 bedroom. So, I waitlisted a 2 bedroom for just the first night. :cool1:

I'm SO excited. Even though we've been to Disney when the decorations are up, we've never been over Christmas. Let the planning begin! :surfweb:
