Wait list filling becoming more automated/faster?

Just wondering if anyone has observed this? I cancelled a reservation recently for a very desirable BLT standard studio and I immediately checked the resort availability tool. There was some availability but not all of the dates I cancelled. So the options are that an automated waitlist tool scooped them up, the cast member assigned them while she was on the phone with me, or someone was really lucky and really fast. Personally I hope they went to someone on a waitlist and DVC has gotten faster in assigning rooms to waitlists, I never liked that someone could essentially jump ahead of me because they got lucky. I did check a few times over the next 10-15 minutes just to see if it was a website update issue.

I have seen that for some time. When canceling VGC late pacific time it's not as likely to be grabbed by someone looking IMO and made me feel that the waitlist wasn't as un-automated as most thought. Have seen it for WDW resorts too in the past. Nothing concrete to really say what is happening though.

Recent reports seem to indicate that waitlists are being filled faster.

I had noticed this as well. I canceled a VGF reservation and went back within a minute or so of doing so an the days were gone so I figured there was a good chance something had been done to upgrade the wait list fulfillment process.

My waitlist came through for one night before my existing reservation. Not only did it come through but they automatically combined it into one reservation number for me without me having to contact MS.

I noticed this, too. In fact, I tried to grab a day, but the system locked up. I put in a waitlist request, figuring it would time out in 20-60 minutes. 25 minutes later, I got the confirmation that my waitlist had been filled.

So, yes, it seems like the waitlist has been at least partially automated.

We just had a wait list for VGF filled this week in less than an hour. My first thought was that the system must now be automated for it to be filled that quickly
I hope I'm right.

I can't speak to "speed" but I did create a waitlist today for a reservation that didn't have all the nights I wanted. I was told if the waitlist came through that the new reservation would be linked to the existing and made into one. So, hopefully it's true that same resort, room type, and category merge into one reservation now. Maybe it means you don't have to check out and back into the same room too!

I talked to a MS rep and they said that holding rooms on a waitlist had been automated. If a room has been waitlisted by someone then it won't go into the available pool of rooms online when someone releases it. It is still assigned manually by a MS rep though. They said that the rep will assign the room and execute any reasonable instructions that came from the owner with it (e.g. cancel another reservation and allot those points to this new reservation).

Yes I was told this exact same thing a couple of days ago. They told me the waitlist fills continually throughout the day and then rooms are held until they can be manually assigned.

Waitlists are coming through fine for me as well. Linking up with current ressies and emails promptly sent. Me likey. :)

I was just coming here to post this...this is good news I think. While I just recently waitlisted for the first time, it has always seemed to me very unfair that the waitlist pool would NOT get first opportunity at a cancelled reservation. Good for you DVC.

One note from the article:

One drawback to this procedural change is that it limits owners ability to recapture their own cancellations in the event of a miscalculation or user error.

In the past, an erroneously-cancelled reservation could be quickly and easily recaptured simply by repeating the booking process. However, now that all cancellations are subject to an immediate waitlist hold, rebooking an inadvertent cancellation may not be possible.
