Wait list fell through - Happy ending!

First question. When I called to check on my wait list, they said it dropped off 31 days before check in. Why? So I went back on one that dropped off 7 days before check in. Again why? What about last minute cancellations? Do you think it would help any to ask at check in? I have a studio for 4 adults and would love either a 1 BR instead of a studio, or another studio.

Wait lists are cancelled at particular times (I can't remember the rules about 30 days and 7 days, but that sounds right to me). If you want to stay on the wait list after those times, you have to tell them that.

If it didn't come through 7 days out, highly unlikely they would have anything when you arrive. You can always ask, but I'm not sure what kind of major points screw ups that could cause - seems that the resort CMs aren't that good at doing anything with DVC reservations that involves more/less points - lots of bad stories that had to be later resolved with calls to Member Services.

Call every day until arrival. Ask again at checkin. We have had wailists come through at the last minute. We have also had to cancel at the last minute or leave early. You have nothing to lose but the time invested. Good luck!

Yep, do as Jean says. You don't say how long you'll be staying. I would call even once there. We once were able to get a 2 bdrm 3 days into an 8 day stay. Good luck!

There are two options you can have when you go on the WL--
Option 1. WL drops at T-31 days. Some folks elect this because they may be on a WL for a ressie that requires fewer points. In this case, if the WL should come through between T-30 and T-7 the excess points from the original ressie will go into holding. I believe T-31 WL is the default unless you agree to (or you specifically ask for T-7)
Option 2. WL drops at T-7. This parameter is set by DVC--could be based on statistical data, I'm not sure. I believe most folks have made other arrangements if the W-L has not come through by T-7.
All W-Ls are dropped at T-7. Your only choice at this point is to call MS and see if they have a cancellation. It is just random luck if something opens up--there is no rhyme or reason.

My WL didn't come through in August and so I asked when I arrived - wanted to change from standard view Kidani studio to savannah view and they had one available and I took it. No points problems at all.

I'm here in a one bedroom! I asked at check in and they did have a 1 br savannah room available. I can't tell you how happy we are. We have room 7522 which is near the elevator. Now I have to find out if the points got mishandled somehow. But this room is so spacious and gorgeous that it will be worth any hassle.

I just checked and they have both the studio and 1 BR as completed vacations. I guess I'll call them.

Member services says that I'm good. They used the studio points to book the 1 br. Honestly - I don't understand how this can be available. This is a super room on the 5th floor. We are seeing plenty of animals and can see the fire pit thing from our balcony. On the chilly days it has been nice and warm on our balcony. My daughter is staying at SSR. She booked online and she got a crummy first floor handicapped room. I wish I would have thought to ask if they had another 1 br for her here since we drove down and are sharing the car. But I had no idea they wouldn't be happy with their room. I'm thinking that this is a room that was set aside for a cash reservation and no one booked it. Could that be it? Anyway - I am amazed and the couple we are staying with is impressed. We could have done okay in a studio but this is so much nicer and now we each have a bathroom.
