Wait List Availability Issue

The four of us are going to WDW 12/9/17-1216/17. Our home resort is SSR. No problem getting reservations at SSR but tried to get either AKV Kidani or BLT one BR at seven months out. We need two bathrooms. Neither was available so we had to waitlist part of AK and all of BLT. But I noticed AKV was available through WDW website for rent.Just wondering why they rent these out instead of making them available for DVC members which in my opinion they should do and if they are not rented do they eventually make them available.

You are looking at two different sets of inventory.
The rooms available for cash are either:
The points that DVC is required to own (2% of every resort) that are being used to offset our MFs or are used to rotate inventory for maintenance or breakage.
The points that were used by members to get a reservation outside of DVC (IE: DCL, ABD, ect) that DVC takes and transfers to CRO for cash reservation to pay for those trips outside of DVC.
So neither of these sets of points are available for booking by points.

There is much to learn about the inner workings of the DVC. You might check and see if there is a DVC discount for your dates. You could also book a cash room and rent your points out next year to help cover your costs.

Stalk the resort availability tool - really stalk it multiple times per day. I booked Christmas trips for the past 3 years right after Thanksgiving. When I first tried to book there was literally nothing available. If you are diligent about checking the RAT, you can catch villas that are cancelled by members before they are used to fill a waitlist. I booked a Jambo Concierge studio, a BWV 1 bedroom and a Poly studio by stalking the RAT for those 3 Christmas trips.

It is amazing how much availability changes - literally hourly. I just booked a Disney cruise for 9/29 and wanted a studio for 9/28 and 10/7. When I checked a couple weeks ago, there were zero studios available. By stalking the RAT, I booked us a VGF studio for 9/29 and a Copper Creek studio for 10/7. I grabbed these villas before the waitlist did.

If you try, I bet you can catch a cancellation and fill your own waitlist
