I'm trying to decide - should I make my reservation now? Or wait for February when the $50 AAA discount kicks in? If I make the reservation now, will the $50 discount by honored by Universal? If I wait, do I risk not getting a room or something like that?

Thanks!

I would go ahead and make the reservation now if you know there's availability. To get the discount, just show your card sometime during your stay the discounted rate should be applied. If you wait too long, the rooms may not be available for your dates.

So does AAA always have discounts at Universal onsite hotels?

How far in advance do they come out??

TIA!!

AAA always has some discount on Universal. But if you book in February, you get an additional $50 off. I could use 50 bucks, but I didn't want to wait for it and not be able to book at the RPR. I'll take the advice above (thanks!) and book now then call for the discount in February.

Thanks for the help!

I'm planning on going to Universal in February.

Could some one give me the details of this discount and where I would find the information?

Thanks!

I'm also booked for HRH Feb 10-13. I have already applied the AAA discount to my reservation, is this $50 an ADDITIONAL discount they are offering once Feb arrives? If so, will they apply it to an already active reservation?
Any little bit I can save would be wonderful, as right now I am paying a $319.00 rate per night with my discount. :goodvibes

My understanding is that you have to book a new reservation in the month of February with AAA agents to get the additional $50 off. Here's how I hedged my bets: I booked our April trip yesterday online at the AAA rate to be sure we get a room. But I have until mid-February to cancel that reservation and get a full refund. I'm going to call AAA on February 1st to make a new reservation and see if I can get a better price. If I do, I'll cancel the previous reservation.

Confused! How do you know there is a special AAA in February? Does that mean you have to stay in Feb.? I made my AAA res. for the end of March at the Hard Rock, and didn't save much over the reg. rate. I would love to save more. Do you have to make the res. on the AAA website, or call AAA, or call the Loew's?? Please help! I know Disney like the back of my hand, but this Universal thing is like a whole new world! No pun intended!

In the Jan/Feb AAA magazine, there's an ad that says February is Universal month.

It says book any time in February to receive $50 savings when you book a 4-night or longer vacation package. The fine print says it is to be booked Feb. 1-28 with travel March 1 thru Dec. 31, 2011.

I'm looking to book one night and room only.

So I guess I'll call them Monday to see if there's a regular AAA hotel discount rate.

Yep, that's it - I saw it in AAA magazine, too. We're going for Spring Break, 5 days, so I'm hoping that the AAA rate + additional $50 will work for us. I will update the post when I know more on Feb. 1.

As promised, I am returning with info about the AAA discount that occurs every February on Universal packages. Following good advice from DIS Board members (thanks!), I went ahead and booked back in January to avoid disappointing my kids if the 3 Broomsticks breakfast booked up AND bankrupting us if only Portofino was available. We have a water-view room (that's all that was available, supposedly) at RP in April and the Harry Potter package with 7-day/2 park tickets. At 10 PM on 1/31/2011, the AAA discount code, UNIAAA50, was functional. And, lo and behold, a regular room (not water-view) with every other variable exactly the same was actually $23.90 more than what I had reserved for us. So, AAA discount, meh. I'll still take the card for the onsite discounts I've read about on the boards, though (double-thanks!:flower3:)
