WAH! Borders isn't giving me Harry Potter...(vent)

I pre-ordered Harry Potter on May 7, and only yesterday I received a card in the mail from Borders saying they will not be able to give me Harry Potter on June 21!!! A friend of mine who ordered in late April received a card a week or two ago reminding him to pick it up by Sunday!

Anyway, I was very disgruntled, not so much at them not giving it to me, but because it was so late notice! I heard they overbooked the preorders, so I also ordered on Amazon, and Barnes and Noble said they can't guarantee I get it that day, but there's a good chance I would. They also said they'd call me to let me know, so either way, I should get a copy by Saturday.

(btw, did anyone hear about the bookstore in Brooklyn who didn't know they were supposed to wait until Saturday and put the books out for sale on Monday??? Apparently it was a small store and they only ordered 4 though. Obviously they all sold quickly!)

oops. I've heard any retailer that releases them early may not be able to request shipments of future high-profile books until they've been released.

Too bad about Borders. amazon.com has a habit of doing that, too. We ordered a Mickey Mouse waffle maker in November. Then we would get an e-mail every week pushing the delivery date back. In January, I got an e-mail stating that if I returned the e-mail, then I could stay on the waiting list. If I didn't return the e-mail, they'd automatically cancel the order. I replied. I continued to get e-mails saying the delivery date was changed until finally they said "this item is no longer available." So we were in WDW last week and DH picks up a waffle maker in the WL mercantile with this really funny look on his face and says, "I thought they didn't make these anymore."

What a shame! I would be so upset if they did that to me, and I am going to be on the lookout for the postman all day Saturday!

I do hope that you get the book from one of the 3 you ordered from!

That is one of the reasons that I will not deal with Amazon.com anymore. I ordered something from them and they did not ship it in time. It turns out they didn't have it after all. When I complained about it, I got a "sucks to be you but we'll do better next time" e-mail. I told them to cancel my account and I will not deal with them anymore.

I actually pre-ordered my copy of HP from a site called buy.com. They had the best price and free shipping. Works for me!!

That's weird, I have always had great luck with amazon. I sometimes even pay a little more because I never have a problem. They have promised free UPS saturday delivery!

It looks like Amazon is "guaranteeing" delivery, it says if you don't receive it on the 21st, they'll refund the cost of the book (as long as it wasn't due to something beyond their control).

However, I REALLY want to get my hands on it as soon as possible, so hopefully Barnes and Noble will be able to accommodate my pre-order. I don't mind having two copies, BF will want to read it too.

It's great to know that other people are as excited about this as I am! (BF thinks I'm nuts, but I know he's going to want to read it too!)

I had pre-ordered the Harry POtter book a few months ago and on April 16th I received an email guaranteeing June 21 delivery.
I really hope they can come through because I could just as easily go down to the midnight party at Barnes and Noble to get my HP book.
