The best part about the whole Chicken & Waffles fiasco was when you were reviewing Chicken Strips and Bawb brought that you can have Waffles with Chicken and you said: "Stop. That's not something I ever want to relive again."

It cracks me up every time. It is one of my favorite Kevin reviews and I play it when I need a laugh.

It's soul food...just like collards. Nothing wrong with that. It may have southern roots, but definitely falls under the soul food category.

See, I was surprised to find this out, and also to find out its a Southern thing, because the first time I came across Chicken and Waffles was in college, in Pennsylvania. There's a really popular chicken & waffle place at Penn State....or at least there was 15 years ago.

I thought it was a strange PA thing...like scrapple and Shoo Fly pie.

No offense, but I think Chicken and Waffles sounds nasty. I asked my grandma, who was raised in South Carolina, if she had ever heard of the dish, and she looked at me like I was from Mars.

no offense taken, i didnt invent it, and have never eaten it. But just cause grandma hasnt heard of it doesnt mean its not popular. There are entire restaurants devoted to it with a huge following that love the dish. type into Google and you will see...
and as said earlier i beleive, its more of a Soul Food dish than a Southern Dish. Read the Wikipedia article about it, lots of info there.

One thing though Kevin, when i posted this i really wasnt even directing this at you, i was mostly suprised that Corey and Julie hadnt heard of it. If anyone was gonna know about it, i thought they would. no big deal, its just food. I hadnt heard of it until about 10 years ago driving thru Long Beach and Seeing Roscoes Chicken and Waffles with a million people in it.

One more thing, i think this dish was WAY out of place in the Restaurant that is was being served in. I dont remember what it was right now, but it should be in a "fancy" restaurant. Soul food is good homestyle food. Collards, cornbread,Red Beans & rice, things like that. i dont think there is a restaurant at WDW at all where this dish really would fit in... at least not at the moment. MAYBE Blue Bayou at Disneyland, but even that is a big maybe...

Basically...if you think about it...people eat Chicken and Biscuits, wouldn't it be very close to that...except its waffles..its a carb....with syrup....instead of the Chicken with biscuits.... with honey on it.....hmmmmm.

We were watching Man vs. Food last night and guess what one of the dinners was...yes...Chicken and Waffles. He visited Gladys Knight's restaurant and during the episode she mentioned that it was started in Harlem and that's where she first heard of it while she was touring.

On a related note he also tried to eat an thirty inch pizza that weighed in at eleven pounds.
