VWL room location/ view question

We have a studio reserved for May 18-23 at VWL. Since I am basically a "polyanna" type, the only special request I made was non-smoking. I am of the mindset of...what view could be bad at WDW?

However, I just read some posts here about a possible dumpster view and that some studios may not have a balcony due to a design error.

I really, really, really want a balcony. One of the DVC perks that sold me is that every room has a balcony.

I am not picky about the view, but I certainly don't want to look at a dumpster for 5 days.

Can I add special requests to my confirmed reservation? How do I do this? Should I call now or wait till check-in? What should I ask for to ensure I don't get a dumpster view?

Call and ask to be on the side that faces Bay Lake. The dumpster view is on the other side (know this from personal experience )
They will add this info to your confirmed reservation.
I don't know which rooms don't have a balcony.

We heard there was only one lock-off studio that didn't have a balcony. My parents got that room and it was on the fourth floor. I can't remember the room number.

Call Member Services and add your requests to your reservation. I did that after our October trip when my parents got the "no balcony" studio and we got the "dumpster" view studio. I know what you mean about a balcony. We could stay at a value or moderate without a balcony. DVC definitely should have a room with a balcony.

We've got reservations for Labor Day weekend in 2003 and I called member services right away after our October trip to change my room preferences.

One other thing...the first floor rooms do not have balconies, they have patios. At least the ones I've seen do. So if a balcony is critical, you will want to request something above the first floor.

That isn't quite true at OKW, Granny. First floor rooms still have balconys there.
